The Public Sucks.

You don't vote, you don't matter.

An interesting choice of words, as I'm sure you'll agree. One I ran into on my Facebook feed, which today has become flooded with "I voted" announcements. Like you got engaged or had a baby or took some other such hugely significant next step. Good for you, as long as you're happy.
Pictures of queues at the voting stations and thousands of people convinced they are going to make a change. And maybe they are, I don't know.

I'm not here to tell them they're wrong. Personally, I don't believe in elections. Mainly because politics are a rigged game. And if X or Y candidate made it in such a position of power, then I very much doubt they're intact, that they're really this savior everyone's hailing.

It's a nice thought - we vote for Joe and Joe will give bigger salaries and better jobs and healthcare. Except Joe doesn't and we forget and in two years time, we'll be out on the street yelling for Joe to be sacked. But we put Joe there, remember? It's a neverending circle, one I'm not really interested in joining.

Why?

Well, mainly because not one political party has convinced me they're worth my vote. In my country, a lot of people are against the party that is now in power. Makes sense, I guess, surely they have a lot of bad things on their rap sheet. But so do the other parties. The one already in power haven't convinced me they're worth going out in the street for. But neither have the opposition.

It's very trendy, especially among the Facebook crowd, to be against the political party in charge. Not necessarily for any other party. Only goes to show, since there are two leading alternatives and it doesn't seem to matter much who you vote for, just as long as it ain't the ones we have already. But why? Why should I be swayed by this movement led by hate and rancor?

I don't find myself there. I am not sheep. I am not cattle. I refuse to go with the flow or post trendy pictures of my voting card or fall in love with the first smooth-tongued liar that comes along. I mean, if I do, he'd better have some tattoos and a motorcycle, at least. And none of these fuckers seem to.

So, the candidates themselves haven't managed to sway me either way. Who else should? Their supporters? God forbid, they're one worse than the other. Both sides are so riddled with cruelty, hatred, snobbery. They're petty and small-minded, at least when it comes to politics, and I refuse to be one of them.

See, I don't like being part of the crowd and I'm inclined not to vote today in the EU elections simply out of spite, to be different. But I know that's not the answer, so I sat down and thought about it. Honestly, simply. Is there anyone I feel would make a change for the better? Is there anyone I actually wish would be in charge of representing our fair country? No.

It's my choice what I do today. And I'm sorry, OP, but I do matter. That's exactly the sort of mindset that puts me off these voting sheep. As long as I don't follow suit, I don't matter. As long as I'm not like you, I don't matter. Thanks. It's good to know.

  1. It's meaningless. This country was bought and sold a long time ago.
  1. If you vote, you got no right to complain.

I agree. Let's skip ahead a little. In the winter, we're going to have to elect a new President. And either the "bad" guy wins, the one belonging to the "bad" political party or the "good" guy wins, the one this "you don't matter" mob are all supporting. And I'll bet you an arm and a leg in a couple years time, they'll be out in the streets again complaining about the fucker. Or about his government or about something else they had a hand in electing in the first place.

Doesn't anyone see they're no better off than they were ten years ago? Doesn't anyone see that this game that is politics is just another source of entertainment, which serves primarily to keep the masses pitted against each other?

Fuck, man, but when you laugh and mock the other side's supporters because they're poor (has happened here, I'm sad to say), then you are the problem with our world. Not the politicians in charge. They're just a result.

PS: Whatever political inclination/interest/morbid fascination you have, please please do not comment with it. Don't try to convince me to vote, to explain to me why I'm wrong or why your guy is better. Or why the guy in charge is wrong. I'm really not interested and your comments will go ignored. You will not change my mind. Not because I'm narrow-minded or stubborn, not because I choose to walk the earth with my eyes tightly shut. But because I've thought about it. For me. And I know what I want and what's important, in my opinion. I don't have to agree with you and I am happy with my choice. Thank you.

”I voted! I matter! I can make a change! Kill the rich, everyone should have everything equal, no matter the effort they put in. Starting from wages and ending in height and the size of their dick. Hell, big dicks for everyone, even those who are biologically born female. Equality! Love! Yayyy!”

Yeah, I’m not gonna vote.

Is that why men are always sending dick pics? Is it a vote for equality?

I believe you just cracked the code!

:))
Good on you. Seems the only sensible choice really ;) I figure what you vote in these elections will have about as much of an impact on your country as any other random action. So far today, I've had a face mask, a hair mask and a delicious oatmeal snack for my country.

The hockey finals, Finland vs Canada will have a bigger impact than the elections.

Yeah, I stopped voting when I learned that the software for our voting machines is closed-source and no public agency is allowed to audit it. It makes a mockery of the idea of open and free elections.

Although I was floored - floored! - the day I woke to discover that Trump was elected. I thought, huh, either TPTB actually let the machines work this time, or they're planning for some major shit to go down and they want to pin it on the someone who's portrayed as the orange buffoon.

I definitely wasn't going to vote for Hillary. And at least I can honestly tell my friends in the Northeast USA that I didn't vote for Trump.

I definitely wasn't going to vote for Hillary.

Who would? ;) If they did let the machines work, it was only because they knew what the result would be and could use that to their advantage, in some way. Trump has divided the American public like no other president before him, seems to me, and I think that helps whoever's in charge. Wouldn't want everyone banding together now, would we?

As for open and free elections,I kept hearing people claiming they were so free and felt so powerful during the EU elections and all I could think of was 'why? how can you think it's that simple? X is bad and we're gonna get rid of him and all would be utopian...come on..'

Happened few months ago in my country, and I was forced to believe it doesn't happen worse anywhere else... People were quarrelling and fighting and dying for premeditated liars and thieves, maybe because they're premeditated liars and thieves themselves, no other reason makes sense.

I don't believe this is a wise-people-don't-vote campaign, but a decision to stand for what you believe in. Maybe that's the only change that matters.

Oh and my eyes never pampered my finger nails as much as they did on that day.

I spend so much of my time thinking about how governments can be less terrible... and it's hard not to go round and round in circles...

I know Steem is full of blockchain hope, but I honestly do think there will be a blockchainy way for normal people to vote on individual policies fairly, and not have to worry about this guy or that guy, or this lady... not worry about the idiotic 'towing the party line' and just vote on the things they actually care about.

Maybe.
Hopefully.
One day.

It won't be perfect... but there's no way it can be worse.

You may as well be voting for your favourite sports team to win for all the benefit it will have to your life.
