Yup, that's why I'm glad I was a Music History major. The mental skills you learn there, apply to any other kind of History. It enables you to connect all the dots and make sense of information in a broader context and long-term trends.
Indeed, information you learn should be deep enough to become helpful.
And to become helpful actually means "deeply connected with other knowledge and can be fluently used".
