#1 - What the Earth is, how it was made, and it's movement in space.

The Earth is a huge ball of rock moving through space at nearly 3000 metres per second.

1. The Earth weighs around 6000 million, million, million, tonnes. Amazing right?

2. Up to two-thirds of the Earth's rocky surface is covered by water - this makes the seas and oceans. The rest of the rocks that aren't covered by water makes the land.

3. Surrounding the Earth is a layer made outof gases, called the atmosphere (air). This reaches about 700 kilometeres from the Earth's surface - after passing through, space begins.

The Earth came from a cloud in space.

1. Scientists think the Earth formed a huge cloud of gas and dust around 4500 million years ago.

2. A star had exploded near the cloud, making the cloud spinning around. As the cloud spun around, gases gathered at its centerand formed our main source of light, the Sun.

3. Dust started to whizz around the sun and stuck together, creating many lumps of rocks.

4. Lumps of rocks crushed into each other to make planets. Earth is one of those planests.

5. Earth and many other planets had to cool down because they warmed up each other and became very hot. It had to also cool down to become a habital planet.

6. The Earth was made out of just a single continents, but later was split up into seven chunks of continents.

Huge numbers of large rocks called meteorites crashed into Earth.

1. They made many round hollow spaces in the ground called craters. If you can see, was also hit meteorites, as it has many craters on it.

2. Altough it has many craters, it also has many mountains that may be as high as 5000 meters high!

The oceans and seas formed as the Earth cooled down.

1. As volcanoes erupted, steam, gases, and rocks was released from inside the Earth, forming the atmosphere and rain clouds, raining for millions of years to make the oceans and seas that we know today.
