Dustsweeper Costs Update
Dustsweeper here from Dusty-land. Just a quick update to let you know about a recent change to the calculated cost per vote. As described in the Dustsweeper FAQ the vote from @dustsweeper were never meant to return a profit, the profit was purely coming from the saved dust.
Initially, the vote value received was 2x the amount paid in. At the time of release, that was the exact amount needed for a breakeven vote. The plan was to introduce a dynamic model that would adjust to the current STEEM and SBD prices, but time constraints and other priorities delayed that from happening.
Dynamic model now in place
With the big price drop, Dustsweeper votes were getting 50% more profitable than advertised. Consider that a small Dusty Gift. :) But we have now implemented a dynamic model that will adjust according to market conditions.
Upvotes received will stay the same and transfers will still be doubled when added to your account, but the amount subtracted from your balance will fluctuate.
So currently a $0.03 @dustsweeper vote, will cost you around $0.045.

Dustsweeper is an initiative supported by Witness @danielsaori. Daniel is also one of the co-founders, together with @davemccoy. Their shared vision is to help newcomers grow and prosper in the STEEM universe.
Seeing a 2 cents profit turn into dust doesn't sound like much, but for someone new, it can make all the difference. @dustsweeper is trying to prevent that potential disappointment by helping protect those tiny profits.
I have a few questions, here I go:
looking forward to your answer.
edit : I might also have an idea concerning your initiative, why not accept votes for your comments/articles and add the payouts from those votes to their balance, this way people without liquid steem (beginners for example) can also use dustsweeper.
Hi, thank you for your questions.
1 - Yes, Dusty is working harder than ever. :)
2 - No comments. We don't want to spam unnecessarily. But we do send low-balance comment notifications.
3 - While I was writing the reply to this question and explaining the logic, I realized that my logic was flawed... ooops. The profit has increased by 50% and not by 100% as I had shown in the example.
Thanks for pointing it out! I keep track of all votes, so I can easily compensate for this.
Interesting suggestion btw. But might be tricky as all votes would be added. Potentially we could add $50 to an account of a whale without that being their intention.
Ok thanks for the answer, I started using it myself now.
I understand, who wants to help a whale :P.
Great initiative I am loving it!
I really want to know how much balance I've got left.
Hi there, sorry for the delayed reply.
You currently have $1.14 in your balance.
You can always send a tiny amount to dustsweeper, something bigger than 0.001, and you will get a notification back. In the near future, there will also be a dedicated Dusty Discord server.
Thank you, that throughly covers what I wanted to know.
Hi there, is now accepting STEEM~? or SBD only?
Yes, STEEM has actually always been an option.
Hey @dustsweeper
Since posts no longer pay out any SBD, can we send through STEEM instead and you'll do the calcs and update our accounts with the relevant amount of SBD or should we convert STEEM to SBD ourselves and send through SBD.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, STEEM support has been there since the release.
hmmmm... my bad. Thanks for letting me know.
* exits the room and goes to make an appointment for new reading glasses* :P
Will it deduct 0.045 from our account we have with you or will it cost us that much to receive an upvote?
Hi, sorry for the late reply!
0.045 will be deducted from your account, the received upvote has not changed.
The 0.045 is an example if your upvote is worth 0.03. Currently, 50% more is deducted from your account, as your payout profit is 50% higher.
I am a little confused (par)
I get payouts of .008 and less all the time? Why aren't those dust?
The $0.02 threshold is the gross value. The author keeps 75%, that is split 50/50 between SP and (SBD or STEEM). So the payout part in SBD/STEEM could be as low as 0.075.
Awesome!! Way to stay innovative! @dustweeper for the win!! Thanks guys!
Cool. Thanks for the update. I have been saving a lot of dust thanks to this service. It's surprising to know that dustsweeper has only 900 registered users, though.
That's great to hear. I checked the stats quickly for you. You have received 40 votes and saved a total of $0.45.
@danielsaori any chance you can pull my stats or how I can access it?
Sure, you have had 20 votes and saved a total of $0.23.
Feature to check this will be available via Discord at some point in the near future.
As long as you're telling folks, could you tell me, too? Both how much is left in my account and how much dust I've saved?

dust mean?
In this case, dust refers to the minimum payout value on the blockchain.
Any Post/Comment not getting above $0.02 after 7 days will be worthless. So if your comment is worth $0.019, you will get nothing...
That is the dust @dustsweeper is saving.
i don't understand you line 'if your comment is worth $0.019 you will get nothing '
I upvoted your comment now, so it is worth around $0.01. If that will remain like that until the 7th day, nothing will be paid out.
There is a built-in threshold in the blockchain that prevents pay-outs of less than $0.02. That is the whole idea behind creating Dustsweeper, to help protect these small profits.
ok
nice idea
Haha! Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks @dustsweeper @davemccoy just sent 1steem to @dustsweeper for all that dust
ok
The Crypto Markets are going crazy. By the way, regarding the change in the dust value on the next Steem hardfork, how is that going to affect this service?
Indeed, the markets are a bit crazy at the moment. :)
The change to the dust vote threshold in HF20 will only have a small impact. I think I calculated it to a 0.3% value loss.
