Question-Post: Got DTube better?
When I found the SteemIt site/blockchain, I actually found DTube first.
Well actually I got really annoyed of YouTube since some time (due to their stupid regulations concerning small channels), so I was kinda watching out for a better solution.
So I started at DTube, naively, hoping for a better world and for more rewards for the many hours I spend in creating my videos. Surely, my content may be not the most appealing, lots of technical stuff, but thats the way I do my videos.
After some time I found out, that you automatically subscribe to the channel DTube, which was OK for me. Later I found out, that 25% of the rewards go to this channel. My first thought was "OK?" , thats the price to keep my videos up and online.
Well, "NO" - a lot of my videos were off-line after not more than 12h. I searched a lot for the reason and found: "yea - we are on Beta state and so on."
So I thought: "I have a Server, set up a IPFS Node until it's fixed". Also I can contribute to the community - even it it costs 25%
After around 100 Videos I checked the IPFS network and found that my videos are only on my node, taking a lot of time (if even) to get loaded.
But nothing changed, so I uploaded all videos to YouTube and started to embed them on SteemIt. More disturbing: You can't dis-subscribe the channel DTube via the site d.tube. This has to be done via steemconnect. I mean - WTF?
What for are the 25% used they take? Surely not for keeping the videos up ..
Alright, no worries, I thought, keep on uploading and those 25% may be used to upvote small channels producing some kind of interesting content. Maybe if they see that the contend took tome effort to create - no matter what kind of contend. Haha .. I was completely wrong again. I checked every day the Trending and Top videos:
Let me sum up the contend I found:
- I am new here (mostly female) and want to say "Hi": 200$
- I am 30 and cooked for the first time in my life potatoes : 250$
- I am a big YouTuber and thinking to getting 1 Mio followers here: 1200$
- I am pushing my cat over the carped and this looks funny (that I don't have the rights on that video - I don't care): 300$
- "You have to loose before you can win" - (What the ... ) and a lot of nonsense blabla: 270$
The funny thing is: Most of these people stopped to post on DTube after lets say 5..10 Videos. However, I know some quite good channels, doing their stuff for quite some time and only one ever got an upvote from DTube .. Most of them got 1$ - If lucky.
Why?
PS: Don't understand this post wrong. I am not bitter, I'll keep doing my stuff here and if DTube would lower this costs to like 5% and could guarantee, that I can find and watch a video, like 2 years old, than I would turn my back on YouTube, which is just a storage thing for me until I find something better ..
I did not do anything on DTube for some time now, but if the costs (which you can't see anywhere when uploading) are still the same, then it will become a place for self-upvoting groups and many new people will quit after a short time.
Just as example: Check my DTube channel
These are my thoughts about DTube .. It has so much potential. I even found a bug in the player and found a dev, who fixed this problem in the next Rollout. So there is support! I want to support it as well .. but not in the way things are running right now .. sorry.
I thought a long time if I should do a post like this, but these questions won't go away...

@kuttmoped, interesting post! I find the information in your post very useful. I checked your account and I think, in case you want to receive upvotes from DTube, you have to change some things.
I see, you got, what I try to say.
I don't want an upvote from DTube, if I have to change my style to achieve this. imho this should not be the way how such an upvote system works.
I could jump on this mainstream train, but honestly - I don't want to create content I don't like, just to make the person behind dtube happy.
Thats the reason why I do my stuff like a hobby - even if the video is a bit shaky, it shows more about the stuff I want to tell, than some glidecam 4k video ;)
@kuttmoped, I think I understand you. I also make videos/content that I like. I don't do it, because I want to get an upvote from DTube. And I know that DTube would not upvote my videos. So, I think that probably I understand you.
Btw, your videos are good.
@kuttmoped, + Steemit is still a bit centralized ecosystem with whales and so on... (Whales upvote the steemians they like). So, it's a kind of current world organization, not the real cryptoworld... So, it needs time in order to decentralize. I hope in the future, the Steemit ecosystem will become more decentralized and user-friendly.
@cryptospa I think most whales just sell voting power or votes.
Well why not. Steemit provides the possibility to do that, so it's legit.
Same goes for all the vote-bots so many (old) users complain about. Steemit seems to allow all those bots and the way they work, so it's fine. The complains should not go against the users who use such services, they should be adressed to the creators of Steemit ;)
Can We help each other ? I will give you an upvote on your post! Please give me an upvote and follow me in return
Sure .. well - most of your posts are in a language I don't know.
English is not my native .. but I try to do my posts in English for some time now - even if it's not perfect ..
