If there will be tricks how to attract beneficial bugs to our indoor plants, then I'll be happy to listen ;)
With winter being upon us, all the plants are indoors and we have plenty of pests going around eating our plants..
Oooh, indoors is a different story. For the most part that's "buy them in and hope they go to town" because it's hard to cultivate a full ecosystem indoors.
That's the problem, especially with it being 6 months of freezing temperatures and maybe some snow. Well I've usually managed to keep the plants alive, especially when they're the kind which doesn't require too much light, but the insects! They're driving me mad! I'm having different kinds of plant insects breeding in the soil and in the plants when my plants are their only source of food for the following months!
Maybe I should try growing the plants covered in glass bowls or start every winter season by sparying the plants with poison to kill all the insects.
I'd suggest not doing the poison option! Keep listening this week...you'll see why. It's actually fascinating how Jessica lays out the case for never spraying and combating pests via beneficial insects :)
Well beneficial insects would be my choice, but not in our living room. I planned on purchasing some.. "Mesostigmata" if I had any issues in my greenhouse, but I had no pests in the greenhouse this summer. I could have tried attracting useful insects too, but it seems it just happened to go well.
I have some gardening instructions which also gives some recommendations on how to attract for example ladybugs, which will then eat off pest insects from the plants :) Also which plants can work as a pest repellant.
There are so many good options to poisons.
Ah yeah, indoors is a different story :)
