To Honor Old Masters - architectural etchings and drawings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 - 1778) was an Italian draftsman, printmaker, architect and art theorist, master of architectural drawings. He had a great influence on the next generations of romantic artists and his series of 16 prints The Prisons with their subterranean vaults , stairs and mighty machines strongly influenced the Surrealists. He also created a large number of drawings and graphics, a series of Vedute ( The Views ) of baroque and ancient monuments of Rome, the '' Vedute di Roma ''.

Oh, thanks very much for introducing this artist, his drawings are very impressive, with all the details. I wish the small text (annotations, tombstones, etc) was more readable in the pictures. The "Old Masters" series of posts are very interesting, there is so much beautiful artwork done and never exposed enough, thanks for letting us know!
Btw, concerning architecture sketches, I have always been impressed by Hugo Pratt's work. He sketched most Corto Maltese panels in an abstract way (characters and action), but when the panel included a building, he turned into a finely detailed & realistic mode.
Drawing is stunning, I love it!
