Tired of having your home look the same throughout the years? Here are some things you may do to know your Personal Style in designing your home:

Walk through your house

Go around your house and take a look at the existing furniture and accessories. List down the items that you are still interested to keep and items that you want to get rid of. Write down how you feel with each item. This way you may identify your personal favorites. Try not to look at the furniture or accessories with a sentimental value to really know if it is your own personal style or just your mother’s style. Most of the time, the sentimental things we have determine the style we choose but in some cases it is totally different.

Check your wardrobe and the things you have

Personal styles in the closet can help in identifying your style for designing your home. Go through you your #wardrobe and see if your #clothing is a bit in the neutral colors, black and whites, or bright colors. Once this is identified then you can now check on the things you have that make you happy or that really suit your taste like a brightly colored notebook or a rustic old piece of watch. If you find these things within your interest and you find aesthetic #beauty in it then list it down. They don’t need to be same all through out, you will eventually discover it in the next task.

Identify your hobbies and interests

List the things you love to do like going to the beach, the museum, visiting vintage shops or painting. These things are big design influences of your own personal style in home design.

Make a collage of photos from a magazine or a moodboard

Get old and new home magazines and cut out #styles that you like. It is also helpful to put in swatches of fabric from your local fabric suppliers (swatches are given for free!) plus cut out patterns from the internet or magazine that interest you. Gather everything together and now it’s time to make a collage. Again, this doesn’t need to be much uniformed because you might be into eclectic design but somehow in this part you are able to see what kind of style you are inclined with.

Imagine your dream home

After doing the following things, it’s time to imagine. Think of a dream home you want to be, regardless of money. Based on the research you made and the imagination you set about your dream home, you may research on a lot of home design trends, and styles that suite your personal taste. It would be easy if by this time you already know the specific and personal style you really want but don’t be afraid to mix and match. You may like #vintage rustic, #modern classic or even contemporary green design, in the end it’s all about feeling good about your space.

With all these tips you may be able to decorate your home to something that’s more personal. Something that is uniquely you.
