She is an Australorpe, which make wonderful mothers, by the way.
She has an assortment of barnyard mix chicks, and one chick from Tractor Supply, a little polish puff ball head. You can see him peeking out under her chin. ♥ Now that I think about it, that chick in the bottom right was also probably a bantam. She took them in with her own chicks.
Oh adorable! She looks JUST like one of mine though, that I always thought was a Copper Maran, although she, and her sister, had no copper at all on them. I wonder if she's really a lorp now.
Its quite possible!! Im no expert with marans, but the ones Ive seen have all had some brown or copper to them, not just straight black.
I love the australorps. they are so sweet and gentle, good mothers, and reliable layers. One of my favorite breeds!
Straight black, but with green and purple irridescence, and a rose comb, right? I lost my favorite hen, Inky, who was Velvet's twin, and she was remarkable sweet, huggy. They weren't like Cleopatra, my copper maran at all. Maybe I have their lineage all wrong.
