2000 years old Bronze Hotpot in China

in #culture7 years ago

It was significant that some archaeologists found the royal tombs of the Marquis of Haihun State, which originated from over 2,000 years (206 B.C.--25 A.D.)that named West Han Dynasty.

WHO is Marquis of Haihun?
There was an emperor, Liu He, who originally ruled Changyi in 74 BC, but deposed only 27 days later, and omitted from the official list of emperors. He lost his original kingdom of Changyi and was demoted to the rank of marquis. He was given the new fief of Haihun in modern Jiangxi Province, and therefore became known as the Marquis of Haihun.

What is THE MOST interesting part?

  1. He is SUPER RICH
The archaeologists had found more than 10 metric tons of Wuzhu bronze coins, as well as more than 10,000 other gold, bronze and iron items.
  2. He is FOODIE
Here is the picture of Bronze Hotpot from the royal tombs of the Marquis of Haihun State. Surprisingly, it is well-preserved and clear-functional-layout.

From the picture, we can see it is a typical three-footed vessel with a container on the top and a disk on the bottom.
According to the interview of the archaeologists, they found that there were carbon traces in the disk below, and residues of food in the container above, such as chestnuts.
Thus, the most popular hypothesis is that this item was a bronze hotpot in West Han Dynasty because it works the same as modern one.
Moreover, there was another item related to this bronze hotpot, named dyeing furnace.

The dyeing furnace was a kind of popular eating utensil in the upper class in the Han Dynasty. This one is composed of three part: ear cup, charcoal stove, and chassis.
However, the function of it is still discussed. Some people thought it is similar to today's private hotpot. Since the Han Dynasty practiced a system of food distribution. Such as a small table with dinner was placed in front of each person's seat, and they did not share food to each other. So that some people believe that the dyeing furnace was for warming the sauce when ancestors enjoyed hotpot.
