*Balfore's Builds* Infinity Gauntlet

in #cosplay7 years ago (edited)

Howdy fellow Steemers! Apologies again. I'm terrible at staying on task, so, lets put the Top Hat on hold, and lets build an Infinity Gauntlet!
Since the Avengers Infinity War was released, I wanted to have my own Infinity Gauntlet, so I made one instead of buying one.
Knowing what a procrastinator I am, you guessed correctly... I waited too long, and most of the tickets were sold out.
My son managed to find a showing at midnight last Saturday. So we went, and we took my grandson-who wore it during the entire movie... He loved it!

If you haven't seen it-I highly recommend it. Don't worry...no spoilers here.
It's not your typical superhero movie, however, it was executed and written really well.

Anyhoo...let's make a Gauntlet, shall we?

First of all, I want to thank Odin, in his "DIY/How To" video, from which I drew most of my inspiration. I love his process, and tutorial. It gave me a direct path to finish a project.
NOTE: Follow Odin's steps on when to glue it all together. My steps are out of order. I'm using my pics to show examples of how I did mine a little different.
He makes a ton of great stuff. Check out his channel, here:
(I hope it's okay to post this)

I changed several things he did, like adding more detail, as well as making my own patterns as you will see later...

He recommended starting with a leather welding glove, I got mine at from Harbor Freight.
Looking at this, I may use a different kind of glove on the next one I make.
This one worked fine, I just didn't like how the finger tips turned out in the end.

NOTE: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR SIZE AGAINST THE GLOVE TO MAKE SURE YOUR PARTS ALL FIT (Just like in the picture above)
I drew out all the decorative filigree pieces on card stock, and cut them all out with a FRESH sharp Xacto knife.

Next, I cut out the filigree , and added it with more of the decorative pieces using 3mm craft foam you can get from Walmart. The color of the foam doesn't matter, because you will be painting the whole thing in the end:

I got very lucky by finding a setting for the large yellow gem (mind stone). I found this at Joanne's.
It's near perfect, although, I needed to Dremmel down the edges until it fit all the way down into the setting:

Made the finger plates with 5mm craft foam:

Used 'puffy paint' to make the raised areas implying raised metal seams:

Odin uses plastic polystyrene sheets for the finger tips, as see in the video.
I used 5mm craft foam, and used the same technique to make the finger tips. It works fine, but its a soft foam, and has some wrinkles. Here's the process I used:
Heat a 4x4in sheet of 5mm foam, be sure to make extra, in case of mistakes:

Lay it over a 2 inch PVC pipe, use a screw driver to make the tips, like this, then trim off the excess, and use your Dremmell to smooth out the edges:

Glue it all together using Odin's video as a guide

Cover the glove with paper, to prevent your PlastiDip spray from getting on the leather:

Coat it all with PlastiDip:

I taped all the small pieces to a piece of cardboard, and coat with PlastiDip as well:

Then coat it all with the gold colored paint you want:

Glue on all your gems. I opted not to make them light up with LED's.

So, here's my grandson wearing the Infinity Gauntlet during the entire movie.
He wore it with pride.

Well, thanks for reading through yet another of my creations, with the major influence of Odin's video.
Please comment, and let me know what you think.
