Silver Bush and Blue Rock Bindweed - two plants you can use in the Garden
Silver Bush and Blue Rock Bindweed are the common names of two species of Convolvulus. Silver Bush ( Convolvulus cneorum ) is a low-growing shrub up to around 0.5 metres tall. It is easy to grow, very hardy, and has a long flowering season. The silver foliage is great for providing contrast in garden beds amongst other plants, and the plant is covered in very attractive small white flowers with a yellow eye. Silver Bush is also great to grow in pots.
Blue Rock Bindweed is Convolvulus sabatius spp mauritanicus. This plant is more of a ground -cover plant as it is very low growing. It's deep green leaves and massed blue flowers over a long season make it a popular plant in gardens and landscapes. It look great when spilling over a garden wall, or just filling the vacant gaps between other plants and it is fast growing too.
Both of these Convolvulus are drought tolerant and are easy to maintain, having relatively few pests and diseases. They are both happiest in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and can be grown in cool-temperate to warmer climates. I took these photos in garden around North Sydney close to the Harbour.
This delightful, deciduous perennial is native to parts of Spain, Italy and North Africa. It bears palmately divided, ovate, slightly hairy green leaves. Throughout Summer and Autumn, it features trailing mats of exceptionally beautiful, widely funnel-shaped, mauvish-blue flowers with light centres. Nectar loving, pollinating insects adore this plant!
Position in full sun facing either South or West and keep in a sheltered spot. Brilliant when planted in hanging baskets or containers. In the South of England, you will find them perfectly hardy!

Silver Bush . This is a small charming plant with silver leaves, pink buds and round white flowers. It rises to a height of no more than 45 cm and blooms all summer.
Well drained soil, sunny plot, raised flower bed or alpine slide. It grows well in hanging pots and other containers. It is short-lived, so it is good to have several rooted cuttings in reserve.

Bush Morning Glory is a glowing presence in the garden. The soft, silvery foliage forms a perfect rounded mound that brings a strong architectural form to the landscape. The color looks amazing contrasted with bright flowers or dark-leaved plants. In late spring the plant is literally covered with white trumpet-shaped flowers that look similar to Morning Glory flowers. Incredibly carefree; this plant thrives in poor soil, heat, and dry conditions too.

Beautiful plant my friend and Silverbush is a fast growing evergreen shrub native to coastal areas of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania. It is a member of the morning glory/bindweed family, Convolvulaceae, that includes many weeds as well fine garden plants. Plants form dense rounded mounds of one to two inch long, lance-shaped leaves covered with fine silky silver-grey hairs. Panicles of funnel shaped white flowers white yellow centers, l.5 to 2 inches wide, open from pink buds from early spring to late fall. Although not hardy in zones colder than 8, silverbush makes a good container plant that can be wintered indoors. The genus name, Convolvulus, comes from the Latin verb, convolvere, meaning to roll together referring to the twining nature of most of the plants in the genus.

Convolvulus sabatius is a deciduous herbaceous perennial with a trailing habit. Its mid green leaves are ovate with entire margins, up to 30mm long and 25mm broad. Convolvulus sabatius, commonly known as Blue Rock Bindweed, Mauritian bindweed or Ground Morning Glory, is native to parts of Spain and Italy and parts of North Africa. Convolvulus sabatius is synonymous with Convolvulus mauritanicus.
The etymological root of the binomial name Convolvulus is derived from the Latin convolvere meaning ‘ to coil or twist’, in reference to twining climbing habit of a umber of this genus. Sabatius is named after the region Vada Sabatia in Italy where this species was first described.

Amazing flowers @ctrl-alt-nwo! Evergreen, trailing ground-covering plant belonging to the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae), native to North Africa, Spain, and Italy. Funnel-shaped blue to mauve flowers, 2.5 cm wide, appearing mainly during summer and early autumn. Flowers open and close in relation to the amount of sunlight they receive. Soft, fine-haired grey-green leaves, 1.5-3.5 cm long.
Synonym: Convolvulus mauritanicus.
Prefers a sunny position in any well-draining soil. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates moderate frosts (zones 8-10). Trim in late winter to prevent the plant from becoming too woody. Suitable for coastal areas.
