The Deadpost Initiative - Week 14 - Share your most undervalued work + week 13 winners ($10 STEEM prize pool) - Let's go Trending this week to get a huge prize pool next week!
What is the Deadpost Intitiative?
The Deadpost Initiative is an attempt to give love to some posts that were overlooked during their short 7 day life span, a chance to bring your old posts back to life and maybe make some friends in the process. The goal is not only to share some love with SBD but also by engagement to generate discussion.
Last week
This week was a week of photography. We had two winners in the category, a category we don't get very much of, so it was a nice change. We also had a nice life experience and time travel!
Let's make this the week that The Deadpost Initiative goes Trending! Resteem! Tell your friends! Tell your whales! I want to give away much more Steem than this!!!
Let's get to it.
Last Week's Winners
@eaglespirit - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@eaglespirit shows her home in Colorodo and I swear that last picture came straight out of a dream. America sure has some nice nature that I missed out on in the city.
Colorado Lake and Spout
@ohicklin - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@ohicklin shows off Yosemite, a park that everyone knows. I remember going there when I was a kid but it was so long ago it's all blurry memories. This post takes me back :-D
YOSEMITE - One of the Greatest Nature Shows on Earth
@sighmanjestah - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@sighmanjestah shares a very romantic story that he was witness to or perhaps even curated unknowingly. This was pretty fun, sweet even.
"Hey, That Reminds Me Of A Story" #1 Inaugural "Increasing Friends"
@steemmeupscotty - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@steemmeupscotty, with his wonderful username, shows us that time travel does exist, and he managed to figure out one particular person who has gone travelling in time. Check it out!
Time travelling selfie dude at early Beatles concert!

I spent months working on this project and it was just a sad and lonely post. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share it again!
https://steemit.com/art/@crystalize/completed-project-handmade-beaded-lamps
Wow, such gorgeous work with delicious materials. Here's an upvote and a new follower ;)
Thank you, @creationofcare!! I most appreciate the upvote and follow! Yay!
I've upvoted your original post as well. They are so detailed you should be proud = D
Thanks so much @pumpkinsandcats! I appreciate the kind comment and the follow!!
Those are beautiful!
Must be rewarding to finish such a long project with your own bare hands! My uncle has crafted a self-designed, wooden, hand made mirror, and he stopped counting his work hours above 2000 hour mark... I have a huge admiration for crafters who put so much love and effort into their work.
Your comment made me smile, @celestal. I think you just described the way most artists feel. Regardless of form (sculpting, painting, photography, crafting, etc.) we need to suspend our awareness of the time investment and stay focused on the desired end result. I've seen some postings in our #NeedlworkMonday group wherein the artists worked for years on a project. It is truly amazing. It feels so Renaissance.
Your lamps are simply beautiful :c) If I had not seen the in-progress images then I would have had a much harder time to associate with the crafting process - and your sharing it really added to the depth of my appreciation of your handiwork - which is impeccable.
The style is also hard to describe but very pleasing to the eye. It takes me back in a way - while remaining rooted in the present.
Thank you for sharing this. It gets my vote. :c)
Thank you so much, @pathforger! I usually post one each month , so feel free to check 'em out if you have time. Thank you for the vote!
Those are truly amazing lamps @crystalize. The post itself is very well laid out with a nice mix of writing and photos. I at first thought you had just added the bead strands to an already fabricated lamp, but as I read your article the truth came out. Definitely a lot of work there. Great that you were able to repurpose some items in it construction.
I agree that this post should have got more recognition than it did.
SDG
Thank you, @sighmanjestah! Yes, the entire project is a restoration, and I actively seek out and acquire antique materials/textiles that compliment the time period of the antique bases. It is a very expensive hobby, but a labor of love. I really appreciate the feedback, and thank you for reading!
Wow. These are really beautiful and a great post too. Hope it finally gets the recognition it deserves. 😍
Thank you so much, @gillianpearce! Join the fun and add an undervalued post from last month, if you have one. I'd love to see it.
I haven't been here a month yet! Although what is considered a month - 4 weeks? Or is it the date, i.e if posted on the 20th it can't be considered until the 20th the following month? how does it work exactly?
Hmm...not sure. I have never entered this contest before, but it says "posts must be at least one month old" so I will assume four weeks. I think you can nominate someone else's post here, too. So if you see or resteemed anything that is a month old that you hoped would get more love, you can probably put it here .
amigo que geniales estan esas lamparas! que mal me siento al notar tan poco apoyo para este post en su momento, definitivamente tu post para mi es el ganador.
Hola @josegodox. ¡Gracias mucho! ¡Las lámparas son muy divertidas de hacer!
Looks like lots of work and very decorative. It looks interesting, I like it.
Thank you, @irstra! I appreciate that very much.
For this weeks deadpost I have something unique and thought provoking, although left with no comments:
Lecture from a REAL PRISONER
But luckily it now has a new chance to see daylight!
Nice post. It is so important for more people to see "criminals/prisoners" are still human. All people make mistakes...Perhaps I'm biased because my husband/high-school-sweetheart is a convicted felon who served 10 years after being tried as an adult at 17 but I really think most people have good inside - some have just been stomped on or molded to believe they must act a certain way to survive. I think the current prison system (at least in the US) does nothing but breed more criminals...there is no rehabilitation, no hope for these prisoners. Hopefully it will change! Sharing posts like yours are definitely helping.
Thank you @amariespeaks for taking the time to read and comment!
I agree; I believe anyone has the potential to do good or bad and environment can guide one way or the other. Some people might be affected more and some less to outside influences.
The situation in the US is definitely bad, also in most of the countries, at least in closed sections. But Norway has taken a different approach which doesn't involve sells: Criminals live in open "prisons", actually they look like a regular dormitory, where they have lots of social programs and freedom in certain limits, of course, focusing heavily on rehabilitation and prevention of future crimes. And it's been successful:
I've planned to make a blog relating to the Norway prison system but haven't got my head around it yet...
Yes, I have heard of some of these statistics from Norway but haven't looked too deeply into it. It does seem amazing, the strides they are making! I think Portugal is another country doing amazing rehabilitation work.
I don't know about Portugal's prison system, but their drug policy is what the whole world should take an example of and it sure contributes to criminal rehabilitation too, drugs being one of the reasons behind criminality.
Yes, that was exactly my point.. sorry should have included I meant their drug rehabilitation programs. But you're spot on - drugs are a huge influence in crime which is what made me think of them. I will have to look into their correctional system too.
It is not every day that one gets first hand insight of what goes on behind the closed walls of a penitentiary. As you say, different locations very broadly from each other - and one appreciates that you made an effort to tone down on the brutal reality of the worst of it all.
Any effort to remind us that we are still humans regardless of our history is one that strikes me as being very important. This has my vote.
I'm pleased that it made such impression on you, thank you @pathforger!
So nice to read a story about a positive change from such a negative starting point. I'm sure every prison has a Crazy Gardner somewhere!
I'm happy you enjoyed it, thanks for reading @pumpkinsandcats!
In my darker moments I have often imagined how an average person, who falls foul of the law by some cruel turn of events, would survive in prison.
An interesting article which kinda reinforces my own thoughts.
Thanks,
xox
Well, a little example for your thought experiment then. I'm happy you liked it!
Very interesting read, an hard story but importante to share :)
Thank you for checking it out!
I'd love it if my Guide to Geocaching a boost! Its 2 months old. Give it ago = D https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@pumpkinsandcats/a-full-beginners-guide-to-geocaching
I’m sorry you didn’t get any comments here, it’s probably because you posted it so later in the week. I thought this was interesting
Thank You = D Glad you enjoyed!
What a generous and great initiative.
Having routed around the tumbleweeds here is my offering reaching out for a little love: https://steemit.com/inspiration/@ldacey-laforge/wisdom-2
Thank-you.
xox
I really liked how this story turned out, in spite of the challenge of three separate writing prompts. Thanks for your consideration and this great post initiative you've put out here!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@byn/all-that-glitters-weekend-three-part-freewrite-challenge
This was ridiculous! hahahah very impressive
Oh my goodness! Your story exposes the wickedness in us all--I could not tell who was the worst "bad guy"! I read somewhere that the true test of art is if it invokes emotion. Not just happiness or pleasantries, but any strong emotion. Nailed it! You'll soon be the next Poe.
Well thank you very much! I do hope to be a great writer so I'm practicing expressing myself through fiction all the time. :)
A very worthy endeavor. I love stories that take a crazy and unpredictable twist at the end. The element of surprise wins every time. I've dabbled with writing myself, but it just turns out to be a child's scribbling on a hallway wall. Usually with the blue crayon. More power to you!
@whatamidoing I'd like to delegate a bit of steem or SBD to the dead post initiative - no clue how to go about doing this LOL but I think it's really important to share the wealth, and although I'm just a minnow too I have more than those who are just starting out :)
Thanks for the offer! Don’t worry about it though! Delegation means you essentially lend me your sp. I won’t accept sp from someone who is just starting off at the platform. You should be using that to support others and encourage them to suppprt you so you can grow! Your upvote on the deadpost and on entries is great support! New deadpost coming sometime in the next few hours!
You are awesome!
oohh I see, I thought it was like a donation lol thank you, looking forward to the next dead post - found some awesome steemians through this one :)

Here is my post:
https://steemit.com/geoengineeringseries/@irastra/geoengineering-series-2-weather-modification-jobs
Thank you for sharing. I will definitely being going back through the rest of your series, this is an area that I want to know more about. I think you made a good point: "The way I see it, is to give the sky and the oceans the official status of a national park where experiments with weather or anything else are not permitted and not-tolerated.. " It is concerning to know how little we actually know about these chemicals, experiments, etc. we put into the air for all life to have to deal with. There seems to be little regard for what may happen to the entire ecosystem on earth.
Very enlightening post. Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Thanks. I actually find it very important that we know as much as possible about what is going on in this area - it is a s you: all life has to deal with it. I'm not finished with the geoengineering series, yet, although what is officially known as geoengineering is more or less covered. But I don't think I have the last ot the ultimate word about it. It would do us and every living being good, if the sky and the oceans would be left undisturbed, besides every hadron collider and cyclotron on the planet should be forbidden to operate, unless the physicist prove that it is harmless, has no impact at all and personally reliable for any consequences.
Fascinating post, @irastra. It is obvious that you are very passionate about geoengineering and the impact it has on the planet. It seems that, in some cases, manipulation of the weather could bring great benefit. For example, creating rain in areas of drought where crops are failing and animals perish due to lack of water. However, a change in one system inevitably creates changes in others, and not necessarily for the better. In my example, other animals may move to the newly "watered" area, only to perish if humans do not continue to manipulate the weather in that same area. Those animals may have been better off where they were and, over time, could have adapted to changing conditions. It's not all that different of a chicken-and-egg argument as seen with selective animal control. Thanks for the thought provoking-post.
Thank you very much @crystalize for the information. I haven't finished the Geoengineering series, yet, just the collecting of information for the next GS #10 takes a bit longer.
It is a highly technical topic with significant environmental and social ramifications. Good on your for tackling it. I'll be watching for the next installment.
Ok @irastra I will have to go back and check all of the series now. I am aware of geoengineering and more than likely one of those series may make mention of the U.S. Airforce.
The post was informative and worthy of posting, but I would suggest maybe a couple of things. Start using paragraph headers if possible and also post the sources of your material.
I did look at some of your later posts in GE to see if you were doing that and it didn't look like you had.
What you post about should be more widely known and I applaud your efforts towards that end.
I also liked your 1st book review on Edward Bernays "Propaganda". I truly believe that if everyone read and understood that book the world would be a much better place.
As time permits I will try and go back to read your whole GE series.
SDG
Thanks for suggestions @sighmanjestah, I'll take them into consideration. I can't edit the posts as they are past the 7-day window, but I may make a compliation of posts with all the sources that are now in links.
Saying that only US Airforce is doing this would be misleading, it looks like more or less every state is doing it to a certain degree, but other documents of this type might be less readily available also due to other languages. It looks like humankind is jointly chopping off the branch upon which we all sit.
Thanks for liking Propaganda book review, I thought no one really read it. I agree, it might be better if everyone would read and undertood that book, but people should not react with rage on the realizations it brings.
I realize you can't go back and edit the older posts, I was just offering it as a suggestion to make the post more readable and therefore hopefully get you more aware individuals.
I reread what I said about the USAF and realized I left out part of what I wanted to say and that was the paper the USAF put out about "owning the weather". Are you familiar about this paper in your researching?
I did catch the part about saying more than likely other states are doing it and that was something I had not considered prior to reading your post.
If you haven't already submitted it in one of the earlier deadpost initiatives I'd encourage you to try doing it.
I hope you did not take offense at my suggestions.
PS As time permits I'd like to go through your obsolescence posts as well.
SDG
I know the USAF document and in the Obsoleteness posts you may find another even more terrible one, or at least similarly terrible. And the patents speak for themselves. Really, what are we thinking, I mean, we humans?
No, your suggestions didn't offend me, I'll use them in the next GE series post when it's finished, partly. I thought of placing the used literature links in the last post, so that the style of the posts remains the same. I tried to do it differently before but it just didn't function and then I just didn't want to spend more time correcting the mess than writing.
I am still trying to figure out how to do some formatting. I understand what you mean. I will get something formatted on one post and then forget how I did it on the next post. Truly frustrating.
Hi there, thank you for this wonderful contest! I worked on this piece for about 2 months, and it scored 0.23 sbd ;) I hope you like it! Many thanks. https://steemit.com/art/@creationofcare/completion-of-i-the-magician-medicine-bag
My first open mic post didn't get many votes or views because I messed up and posted through dtube. I'm learning how to 'steem' better as I go, though! Thank you!
https://steemit.com/dtube/@abyni/uwqs72uq
I tried to watch it, but it just sat there spinning forever. BTW: You are not awkward at all. You are distinctive, sincere and courageous.
thank you so much, (even though I still think I'm awkward) it means a lot :)
que bella voz!! me gusto mucho tu video :)
muchas gracias, estoy tan contento de que te haya gustado. gracias por ver :)
Great cover and you have a great voice! Like @crystalize said: "not awkward at all".
thank you, I'm glad you liked it, if you're interested, I also do writing on my blog
