Anti-vaxxer movement targeting most effective vaccines.
I think the part of the anti-vaxxer movement that is the most bonkers is that they are most focused on getting rid of our most effective vaccines.
It always amazes me that humans are able to completely eradicate certain diseases. We've done it with smallpox.
Measles we've eliminated locally in the Americas. We have sporadic outbreaks due to imported cases. Global eradication is biologically feasible as it has no animal reservoirs.
Polio is one that is within reach as well. We've eradicated wild type 2 and 3 poliovirus globally. Only wild type 1 remains in two countries. Vaccine-derived polio is generally what you see in sporadic outbreaks around the world now. But new polio vaccines have increased stability and are less likely to mutate.
