Here is my position on how the college protestors should be treated.

No matter what someone says they should not be punished for their comments unless it is a direct threat of violence.

They are free to say they are pro-Hamas and that Israel must die. I will feel free to tell them that they are pond scum but no official punishment other than potential social stigma should they face.

If they engage in violence then they should feel the full force of the law. No leniency because they are "protesting."

If they do something short of violence but interfere with others, such as blocking their path of movement then perhaps a warning is in order before a threat of suspension or expulsion is in order.

Free speech must be protected but free speech does not give people the right to harass others or imped the lives of others.
