On the matter of the healthcare system being "cure" based rather than "prevention" based, I thoroughly agree. Interestingly, when the National Health System was first introduced in the United Kingdom, one of its main financial justifications was that it would put an end to illness within thirty years. It was thought that disease would be wiped out, and the need to see a doctor would fall by about 80%. Well, it's true that once common diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, and smallpox did largely disappear, but it is estimated that the demand for medical services increased fivefold, and continues to increase.
