Smoking gun in medical practice.
I had cold sores on the edge of my lips about 2 weeks ago. I went to the doctor and he gave me an antiviral cream. Wanting to get it healed quickly, i used it against my intuition that most prescription drugs are ineffective. It got worse and what started as a small spot had spread to a bigger area. I started reading the insert and learned there is a list of side effects including a discoloration of the skin which explained the black spot on where i applied the cream.
Fortunately, I met a friend, a fellow health nut who recommended and gave me some lysine supplement. Thankfully, it cleared up within a few days ! She reminded me about what i knew before about the imbalance of lysine and arginine that caused the herpes inflammation.
I learnt it the hard way the adage that the medical and pharmaceutical industry do not have our best interest in their practice.
A tube of the antiviral cream .... $48 !! It is daylight robbery compared to a few lysine tablets that cost less than a dollar and accomplished far more with no side effects. In the future I would not be so eager to run to the doctor for any ailments and seek out natural cures which are usually cheap or free.
Cold sores will cure without any intervention after about seven days. The body has excellent defence mechanisms. Taking lysine is a harmless "placebo" treatment. Having gone to see your doctor for a trivial condition, do you feel you would have been happy if he or she had simply told you to go away because no treatment was necessary.
thanx for the info.... u have confirmed my opinion. i would have been happy to get an honest response from the doctor that u gave. the fact that he was so trigger happy to prescribe the cream shows that he was profit driven. Btw , i was there for a different problem but mentioned the cold sores in passing. I tried the cream reluctantly because i wanted to get rid of it quickly. To confess, it was also because prescription drugs are free in Canada. Which brings me to another sad truth about the collusion of the government with the pharmaceutical industry. The whole healthcare system is set up for managing sickness instead of health preservation.
On the matter of the healthcare system being "cure" based rather than "prevention" based, I thoroughly agree. Interestingly, when the National Health System was first introduced in the United Kingdom, one of its main financial justifications was that it would put an end to illness within thirty years. It was thought that disease would be wiped out, and the need to see a doctor would fall by about 80%. Well, it's true that once common diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, and smallpox did largely disappear, but it is estimated that the demand for medical services increased fivefold, and continues to increase.
