This is a follow up on the video I posted the other day. It is that wonderful time of year when everything smells, looks and taste like GREEN!
There is a lot of prep work I do before even making my first cut of season, like putting on some rocking music and gathering up my gear. Today I chose an old school funk mix.
Steps and Equipment
Sterilize 3 Clear 5 gallon minimum containers bins work great. You can do a 1 bin wash if there is no mold/p.m issues. I do 3 here, because outdoors in the Willamette tendency for all kinds of molds and I've chosen these strains to wet trim and that means getting all the loose fresh cut tiny pieces off.
Gather all equipment wash/hydrogen peroxide spray down and dry.
As you can see I have different cutting tools, one hand pruners for first cut, then white scissors for bucking and finally orange for fine trimming. The smaller snips are Japanese Chickamasa fruit tree scissors and are most trimmers scissor of choice. I prefer the curved shape, you can get spring held straight/curved or straight Chickamas's as well.
Chickamas's have a coating so if you choose to hand sharpen, you have to constantly do it, or the will dull fast. Sharp tools are crucial in the pot scene!
I used a sterilized strainer in between batches to get all the little pieces of debris out of water, before dunking next batch*
If you have a lot of powdery mildew, it will form a blueish film on top of the water, take brand new plant based sponge and skim off top between batches, only if necessaryPurchase and use only NON-Stabilized hydrogen peroxide, it will say "stabilized next to 3% hydrogen peroxide you don't want random stabilizer in there. Some people will add lemon juice as a sterilizer to the water. I have never done that, however with some of the lowers and other 2 strains remaining, I might experiment this year with that.
First bin add 5 ounces hydrogen peroxide to 6gallons of filtered water if possible and luke warm, not too cold and not too hot
My second and third bin are just 5 gallons each clean filtered luke warm water
First Step I always talk to a plant before cutting it, it knows, but I feel better doing this. I cut shorter top kola's on the Afgoo, about 6-8 inch pieces, about a tray full, you don't want to cut too much to have sit too long. Only cut what you can clean right then.
Second Step I big leafed, separated any buggy, moldy or dead big leaves to one tray. Second tray I cut the good big leaves. Third tray I wet trimmed, just ever so slight hair cut as you see in picture 1 above. That trim goes into it's own sugar leaf tray, when doing this, tap the stem and shake any loose leaf off before putting in water to wash. Once the good big leaf and sugar leaf are somewhat dried in tray I transfer to paper bag to final dry in dry room.
Third Step Once all my buds were trimmed and looking nice, I then dunked them in 1st water bin with hydrogen peroxide, I swish around ever so gently about 10 seconds to 30 seconds. Then I dunked and swished in second and third bin.
Do not shake to hard, just let the water fall, like a sponge dripping out.
Fourth Step At this point I hung outdoors for several hours before bringing in my dry room. This is why it's important to start early in the day for light and dryness/wind.
Hold buds by the stem, no sense smooshing any trichomes
I was fortunate to have a super sunny day and even a little ladybug came and hung out while I cleaned the nugs.
Final Step I transferred the kola's to my dry room and set a dehumidifier about 50% for 24 hours then turned off and let slow dried for 5 days.
Now the prep of washing and sterilizing a bunch of glass jars and lids. In five days I will have to buck the buds from the stems and trim up all nice and pretty.

Hello @kimmysomelove42. simply impressive your technical explanation. at some point I was a grower of yerba mate, but I must admit that I never tried a method like the one you just shared.
I didn't know the qualities that hydrogen peroxide can have as a sterilizer. no doubt the proper handling makes the harvest clean from the beginning as handling the seeds to the process of cutting and preparation before smoking or using it for another purpose. for example in Venezuela marijuana is used to wash the fighting cocks ... I am not in favor of this tradition, but the breeders use marijuana with white rum to massage the roosters, according to the ancestral legacy, the combination of rum + marijuana relaxes the muscles of the chicks, is also used by yerbateros who personally cultivate it to mix it with rum or brandy and in the same way the recentan for sprains, or people with probelmas of rheumatism. it is really fascinating the medicinal use that is given to this incredible plant in other cultures.
I was a smoker for more than 10 years, and anxiety problems were overcome. unfortunately my lungs do not tolerate smoke and I suffocate and stop consuming it.

Perhaps you would benefit from internal c.b.d oils? It is a wonderful preventative and anxiety helper, I found it has helped with my hormone flux right now and calms my night sweats.
I have not tried. if you give me a technique to extract the oil would be great. for the moments I only take valerian and passiflora
those are lovely herbs, skullcap. lobeila and my favorite is motherwort, I was having anxiety swings, never before and went through a bunch of herbs, motherwort and c.b.d. oil stopped all of that. I have yet to make c.b.d oil, need to grow some c.b.d. strains, however, I have a friend that makes the best organic and lab tested oil and I usually take in the day and it seems to help at night, gives me energy and clarity which is a bonus.
I will see how I do to obtain the oil. it is extracted from the seeds? it is by cold pressing? I have so many doubts...it would be great to be able to enjoy again the curative benefits of the c.b.d but in oil!
no, from the plant, lots of info online, I'll ask my friend a good resource recipe, you could always go to #cannabis tag and look through the growers feeds their, lots of info, they also have a canna-curate @discord channel and peeps were giving recipes for butters etc.. lots of folks extract with mtc oil ( high grade coconut) or butter and then you can cook or bake with it, nice way to take relaxers, for me this way is a bit too intense on my liver and strength. I love smoking it, and am open to possibly getting a vape machine.I'm not a fan of all the oil pens they make here in the states, I don't trust extraction chemicals and it always make me nauseous and dizzy feeling. Lots of people love them.

This looks like a great year for you. It's a lovely harvest and your plants must have been very healthy to produce so many buds.
I always talk to my plants. Even when I water them. It seems to be working as I have plans for almost 10 years and they still look good.
How long will this harvest last you? I don't smoke so I can't imagine the volume that you use each time :)

This season is loooong! This year, my plants were actually smaller. I did some new topping/lollypopping technique. I start end of May and because I can only do so much in a day, and only want to take top kolas then mid section then lowers, hoping to be done by end of November if not sooner. The rains are here and it's really challenging I have vendor tents over them and need to watch constantly.. They are all super close. One batch takes about 5 days to dry then I trim, put in jars then, take down next batch. Super intensive loving care. Best medicine for me my entire life. I don't take pharmaceuticals ever! I want it to be the highest quality I can grow. My next quest is learning more about the Korean farming techniques. This year I made a ton of my own fertilizers and ferments and there is tons to learn on this topic. I love that you talk to your plants, ever read any Michaelle Smallwright, one of my earlier hero's I studied! She wrote the book Behaving as if the God in all life matter.. that's her first book, autobiography. She is the one that communes with nature spirits etc. and grows like super size cabbages and such.. its a big famous world Garden out in West Virginia, on my bucket list to go visit called Pelleandrea I think.

Most everyone I know does not take this much effort, but the washing, drying and curing is most important to me. I don't think people realize I planted these end of May... so it's 5 months plus of daily loving care, many folks grow super quick indoors with artificial light and high intensive fertilizers which has serious environmental impact. You bet I'm gonna make it the best medicine possible.. I grow for myself and friends and the taste and quality is full of yummy love!

above shot is my sample infected with powdery mildew before dipping; shot below is after trying your technique:
left on some of what you call sugar leaves that had powdery mildew, thinking that would be the quickest place to tell if peroxide really works. clearly no improvement.
jorge cervantes also touts this method and in his 8-year-old video on yute-oob he suggests not just dipping but letting the material soak in the H2O2 bath for a few minutes. he's not as strict as you about sterile conditions.
had different batches going five, ten, fifteen minutes or more and still detect no diminution of the powdery mildew.
though I enjoyed your post, to make it more credible--and jorge neglects this as well--you might inline before'n after snaps of infected cannabis, to prove the mildew really has been removed by the bath.
to give the technique its due, I tried various dilutions of peroxide. jorge agrees with you on 5 oz. per 5 gallons of water--but I tried less and then more peroxide and saw no removal of powdery mildew.

Interesting, I've done it the last three years and it killed any spots I had.. Next batch, if I find some spots I'll do before after pics.. When it's that bad, I recommend using a tsp of baking soda in gallon of filtered water with 1 tbs hydrogen peroxide in same gallon spot spray areas at least three days before take down or the best is potassium bicarbonate, basically what the product Green Cure is and they claim you can spray that stuff day before harvest if I remember correctly. By random chance is your hydrogen peroxide say stabilized @jonnymondo You can use Green Cure to dip and rinse after take down, I've seen people do that and it kills the p.m. , I personally if plant is that bad, I would treat and use for topical product, it's more than likely systemic. I know some people even use apple cider vinegar once again there's high levels of potassium in there. I've just used hydrogen peroxide in small amounts for tons of stuff my entire life, it's cheap and been effective for me, however, I am when I have enough time o.c.d. about smelling and seeing that stuff and get on it... for a month, I spot sprayed with just hydrogen peroxide filtered water and it killed the spots. I used milk, and apple cider vinegar as tests this season and both of those worked, however, I found that the smell of those attracted the little black flies, so I went back to hydrogen peroxide

and I'm tickled the sight of my mildew-blighted girls didn't make you cringe. those were pretty brutal photos I sent. but this is the second season I've grown mendo-purps and it's the most prone to powdery mildew of any strain I've experimented with. notes from that grow back in 2015 describe exactly what I'm seeing again.
trichoms on the mendo-purps when she was still green and then a month later when she's turned almost completely purple . . . why do I think they call it mendocino purple . . .
but I must thank you for encouraging hydrogen peroxide. tried spraying some badly infected stalks with a little full-strength. left it on half-an-hour, then rinsed the stalks in clear water. examine tomorrow to see if it helped.

Wow can you imagine that purple!! That's incredible. Seriously, try adding some baking soda/hydrogen peroxide water when you first see it and spot spray, so, recipe is 1tbs. per gallon baking soda and 2 tbs hydrogen peroxide per gallon, this is what my local dispensary told me years ago. I recommend a little less, my experience folks won't listen, and spray in heat of day when sun is on plant and then they burn it so just in case I say 1tbs. hydrogen peroxide and it has worked just as well, you can go up to this for bigger problems. By the time you take down and I wash, it tastes fine and waay better than powdery mildew... The best thing in my experience is not to let it go, and I prevent it as long as I can with fans, two per plant, cranking all the way through flower stage, this prevents flies and all kinds of moisture issues. Now if you get it and the fan is blowing right on that area, turn fan off and then remove infected leaves and or spot spray, until you manage situation. I went cray cray this year and kinda devastated two of my girls by big leafing tooo much! Then of course I watched nukeheads guy on youtube, randomly came across him and and a two hour video on botany and why you don't big leaf.. I studied horticulture and science long ago, finding my pathology books are a great reference. I think he convinced me not to ever big leaf unless loaded with bugs or mildew etc. Good on ya for doing some experiments. I know you can buy straight potassium bicarbonate powder, which I'm gonna do next year and do some pre preventative spraying in my entire yard..Usually, I use a soap, baking soda, dish soap spray during the entire veg season adding lemongrass, clove, peppermint oil, spray my entire yard trees you name it. Once in flower I just use the baking soda/ hydrogen peroxide and then toward end if I still need it I drop to just the hydrogen peroxide. This post I wanted to mostly show that you can wash pot properly and have it taste that much better.... good luck and good growin! this is my Blue City Diesel, more purple plant than I have ever seen. My budy told me it was a Jager and since I had grown that last 2 years, when it had bright pink hairs, I be like what up...? you ain't no Jager!

was very interesting to see the process of harvesting this plant, in my country it is forbidden to plant and consume it, so it is a luxury to be able to see a plant in the country where I live (Venezuela). How long did it take for them to take that size? I imagine a few months depending on the weather. Sure you will enjoy a lot to smoke something that you cultivated yourself.
