Are you still on Steemit.com? I've moved over to Busy.org instead 👍

in #busy6 years ago

I've happily used Steemit for about a year but the new Privacy policy and Terms of Service pop-up rubbed me the wrong way and has prompted me to look elsewhere for ways to access the STEEM blockchain. I've since made the move to Busy.org and am positively surprised by this alternative.

BUSY.ORG

Busy.org is actually just like Steemit. It lets you access your regular old account, post and comment on the STEEM blockchain, access your wallet, and everything that you're used to. The only real difference is that the layout is a bit different, but otherwise it is simply an alternative way to access your account. A good back-up if you don't want to sign the new TOS and Privacy Policy, like me.

BETTER THAN STEEMIT?

Busy actually offers several improvements over Steemit! As you may know development on Steemit has been rather slow this past year, so I was happy to discover some features on Busy.org that have been sorely lacking from Steemit for a while now.

Voting slider: One thing that I like is the addition of the voting slider which lets you vote with less than 100% votes. This feature is native to STEEM but Steemit doesn't allow it's usage until you've reached 500SP or more. On Busy.org everybody can use it. This helps preserve voting power and lets you upvote more.

Alerts: Busy.org also has automatic alerts that both pop-up and light up in the top-right. These alerts show you anything related to your account such as letting you know when somebody new has replied to a post of yours, or when somebody new started following you.

Activity: There is also an Activity Tab, which is proving to be pretty useful for seeing all related activity on your account. Everything from replies to upvotes, follows or unfollows, transfers and everything else will be visible here. There are handy filters to tone this big list down into the information that is relevant to you at the time.

Visible Voting power & percentage: I used an add-on extension to see this information on Steemit, but on Busy.org you can view your own and other people's voting power percentage right from their profile page. It also shows you how much their upvote is worth.

No Privacy policy or TOS: Kind of the main reason I moved to Busy.org!

There are more advantages too. I think there's a busy.org bot that upvotes posts made through the platform, and there's a Bookmarks tab that I still need to look into (it sounds handy though!). Busy.org also lets you add links to your profile for other social media websites or even cryptocurrency wallet adresses, and there is a feature for adding in a signature.

I haven't been back to Steemit since the new pop-up and I think I'll be sticking with Busy.org from now on. Are you still on Steemit? Have you tried Busy.org?

So are there any downsides to using busy? What about my current posts, followers and the likes, do they carry over?

Are things I posed visible on steemit and vice versa like it is the case with DTube and Steepshot?

Any benefits to using both?

There aren't really any downsides to Busy.org. All your posts, followers, likes, etc. is on the STEEM blockchain so they are on Busy.org as well.
And if you post on Steemit, it is visible on Busy and if you post on Busy it is visible on Steemit. Just like with DTube yes.

There aren't any real benefits to using both that I can see though

I will take a look at it then. I worry mostly about functionality.

I appreciate you letting us know what features you appreciate on Buys.org. I think I will have to try it out now.

It's pretty nice!
One other thing I really like is that there is a crypto price ticker on the side of the screen which automatically adjusts itself based on what you're reading. If you're reading about Bitcoin it shows the Bitcoin price, and if you're reading about STEEM or Ethereum it shows that in stead!

Thank's for head up! Good info's!

It is indeed a good alternative which I used to use when steemit fails or goes terribly slow.
Despite I more used to steemit I have to recognize that Busy.org works always well.

I'm still on Steemit, just can't get used to busy's interface. I'm personally finding it a little bit too cluttered for my taste.
I just use the Steemplus plugin on Steemit.

Yes the interface takes getting used to. My main gripe is that it feels more like Facebook where Steemit felt a bit like Reddit. I like to have a good overview of all the posts but on Busy everything is enlarged so much that a lot more scrolling is involved.

Honestly I didn't really study the new terms, figuring they were updated to meet the new standards of GDPR, in which case they would probably be less bad than the old terms I'd already signed. It also didn't occur to me that alternative sites like Busy might have different terms.

I never studied the old terms but when I looked into the new terms and saw that they collect phone numbers, and are at liberty to change the privacy policy or ToS at any time they deem fit. It also says they will not sell our data, but later in the privacy statement it says they are allowed to share our data with 'business partners'. It didn't sit well with me.
Busy has no terms of service pop-up at all. i was never prompted to agree with anything there.

I like busy soooooo much more than the original steemit, it has so much more cool features. Yes the slider is one, but also the stats without having Ginabot /steemworld opened helps a lot.

Recently I also went back to the Esteem app by @good-karma . Nice votes and also easy interface

Yes, the stats too!
And being a crypto enthusiast I very much like the crypto price tickers on the side too

Is having no terms of service preferable I wonder? Couldn't they then do anything?

I'm not sure but at least I never agreed to anything!

Thank you for this information, I'll definitely be checking Busy out later today.

For people interested in trading and investing, I am one of the alpha testers of a new website called TIMM which is under construction at http://mentormarket.io

TIMM posts to the STEEM blockchain too. When completed this will provide additional functionality to traders and investors, but feel free to check it out so long or follow @timm on Steemit. I'll be sure to post when TIMM is up and running.

I've never heard of this before but it looks interesting! if it ever gets released to the wider public be sure to let us all know! The more STEEM interfaces, the better!

Yes, it's still brand new. We've only been publishing through it for about a week, pointing out faults to the poor hardworking devs! I'll be sure to post when it hits the public at large.
