A father's sin - An original story- PART 6

The sale of the house went through six weeks later. John was going to sublet his apartment and Paula put up her apartment for sale.

Paula and Debby had become quite close, and the wedding plans were coming along great. Hannah had a big birthday party at one of the local restaurants. It was a first experience for John, and it wasn't as awful as he thought it would be. She just turned six and she was changing schools. She seems to have adapted perfectly into her environment.

Paula and John decided that they would only move into the new house after they got married. Sylvia moved into the cottage with her boyfriend so long to keep an eye on the place. Paula was still struggling to sell her place and thought about renting it out too because it was taking so long to sell. They were all having dinner one evening when Henry phoned. Henry was Debby's husband and he urgently needed to speak to John.

John excused himself and walked out on the balcony.  Paula took Hannah to take a bath and put her to bed.

She found John outside on the balcony crying. Tears were streaming down his face and Paula had no idea what was going on.  He just cried and couldn't get anything out of him. It was the first time she had seen him this upset and she poured him a stiff whisky to calm him down.

She gave him a few minutes and then took a seat next to him. "I'm flying out tonight. Debby was in a terrible car accident and she was taken to hospital. Henry said they have little hope that she's going to make it.

Paula was devastated. "Do you want me to come with you?"

"No I really need you to stay here with Hannah. I'll keep you updated."

John went to pack his things and phoned for a cab. He was able to find and emergency seat on the next flight and he was out the door in minutes.

John arrived at the hospital a few hours later. He was completely out of it and he went to speak to her doctor immediately. It was worse than he thought. Debby's organs were already shutting down and her liver was damaged severely.  She was put on the donor list and they were waiting for the first available liver.  They've already tested close relatives, but couldn't find a proper match.

John immediately asked to be tested and an hour later they found out that he was a match. He was prepared to do anything to save his sister, and he didn't know how he would continue if she had to die.

He didn't have time to phone Paula and he handed Henry the number to phone them. Both John and Debby was pushed into the theater within half an hour. The operation took nearly eight hours and when they were pushed out of the theater Paula and Hannah was there to support them.

John woke up feeling very groggy and but he wasn't concerned about himself. He only wanted to know about Debby but there was no news yet. They waited for nearly four hours, but then the doctor came in and told them there were no complications.  The next twenty four hours would be crucial, but if Debby pulled through then she had a sixty percent chance of survival.

It was good news and Hannah climbed on top of the bed with John and fed him some jello. She had to look after her daddy now. They all left a little later to give John some time to rest, but John was fine and extremely worried about Debby. He was focusing all his attention on her and he made them push him to her room in a wheelchair.   At home, Paula took over and ordered some food. Everyone was devastated and they hardly ate anything, but Paula took control. Henry went to bed early because he knew John would phone immediately if there were any change.

John sat next to Debby's bed the whole night, and was still there when Debby finally opened her eyes. Her vitals signs were approving and when the doctor came for his rounds he told them that she was nearly out of danger.

She was still on a ventilator and couldn't talk but that didn't bother John.  He did all the talking, and he told her exactly what happened. He was ecstatic that she lived through this ordeal, but he felt that the bond they had now was even stronger.

The next few days were hectic. John was in Debby's room more than his own, and he was ecstatic when she was moved out of ICU and they pushed her bed into his room. They could see no reason how two different rooms would make any difference as John would just end up back in Debby's room anyway.

John were discharged three days later when the doctor made sure that his wound did not infected.  He was sent home and Hannah was delighted to see him at home. He was still sore and couldn't pick her up, but she could at least sit on his lap while he told her stories.

John refused to go back home before Debby was discharged.  Paula decided to go back to her practice and she took Hannah with her. It was going to be a difficult transition but John fully trusted her with Hannah and he knew she was in good hands.

It took two weeks before Debby was finally discharged. Henry, John and the kids were delighted that she was finally home. John flew home two days later and Hannah, Paula and Sylvia arranged a big homecoming party.

Debby was on her way to recuperate, and couldn't fly for the next six weeks.  Paula took it upon herself to move the wedding date and all the arrangements has been finalized. It has been a dreadful month, but the worst was over and everyone was extremely glad that it all worked out.

Hannah loved her new school and the move went smoothly. That was the one thing Paula couldn't move, but it worked out great. She loved decorating the house, and the wedding was only three weeks away. Debby flew out a week after the move and she was amazed by all the work that had been done at the house. She was still in a little bit of pain and couldn't walk far ends, but she and Paula had a lovely time finalizing everything for the wedding.

The two weeks flew by like nothing. Henry and the kids flew out for the wedding and Henry took his rightful place next to his wife at the ceremony.  Hannah was a flower girl and looked lovely in her beautiful pink princess dress.

Nearly everyone cried when John and Paula walked down the isle together. It was a lovely ceremony and they had a great reception.

John and Paula was off to their honeymoon in the Maldives and Sylvia made sure that Hannah went on with her normal life. Originally they wanted to take her with but Debby insisted that it was a bad idea.

Six weeks later John was surprised with a special dinner after he arrived from the office. Paula had something to tell him and she hoped that he would be as happy as she was.

She made him sit down and he picked up Hannah to put her on his lap. It was the happiest news that he could expect when she told him that she was nearly thirteen weeks pregnant. She knew before the accident but didn't want to tell anyone because the time wasn't right. Now she was sure that everything was going to work out perfectly and she couldn't wait to tell him.

Hannah was excited about a new little brother or sister, and they all phoned Debby to tell her the news. Debby was delighted for them, and she was extremely grateful that her brother had found someone as special as Paula.

Just after Hannah turned seven, he little baby brother arrived and John was overwhelmed by the thought of having a second child.

He walked out on the deck and thanked Jessica for the wonderful gift she had given him to be a father to Hannah, and he knew that he was blessed for life with both his children.

-The end-

A happy ending story😊 I like it though

Just read the whole story all the chapters, an enjoyable read with a happy ending. I don't like sad endings, that is why I like fiction you don't have to go beyond ... they lived happily ever after.
