500+ SBD BOUNTY & POTENTIAL STEEMGIG - HELP ME IMPROVE STEEMIT
I can come up with ideas, but I lack the skills to make some things happen.
I cannot write programs, I am not a coder or a dev, and I'm not really sure what it takes to get certain things done. This is why I am offering up a 500+ SBD bounty to anyone who can get this job done. For maximum exposure, I'm also tagging this in the #steemgigs category.
THE ISSUE
Let's face it, it can be really hard to find certain posts on steemit. The post history of some users is like a bottomless pit. Newer users really have no idea about the things that happened before they arrived, and locating certain posts becomes like a "Where's Waldo" game that some people never win.
In a lot of ways, it is very hard to even get to know another user. Their ideas and creations quickly get buried and for the most part we only get exposed to whatever topics or posts they are currently posting or have posted in the recent past.
THE IDEA THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE BECOME REALITY
Eventually, I would like to see this become a feature on steemit itself. For now, though, perhaps it just needs to become another off-site resource. Either way, I'll willing to pay to get it done.
Imagine that you could select a username and then choose a tag. When you select the particular tag for a username, every post that user ever made in that tag would show up in order.
By way of example, let's say that a gardener joins steemit. They find the @papa-pepper page and notice that I claim to be a gardener. Since this interests them, they wonder what posts I've made in the "garden" tag. However, my posts are varied, and by scrolling down in my post history they mostly see animal posts, contest, and other content. They conclude, "Maybe he is not such a gardener after all," and move on...
If this tag idea becomes implemented on steemit, though, or if we are able to provide an off-site resource, then the user could just select my username and click on the "garden" tag. Instantly, every post I've ever made using that tag would be instantly available for them to explore. Now, rather than concluding "Maybe this guy is not such a gardener," they will conclude, "Cool, what an interesting gardener with some great gardening posts!" Can you see the difference?

I think that this could be a huge tool for increasing our interaction and understanding of one another, which will help build deeper relationships and the community as a whole.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
Yesterday when I was at the "STEEMY SUMMER PARTY" in Kansas City, I was discussing this idea with @jacobts and @stellabelle. (And yes, I will do my official recap on the meetup/party in the near future to let you all know my thoughts about it.) Anyway, @stellabelle had made the comment that she was even having troubling finding one of her own recent posts. Let's face it, there certainly is room for improvement in the ways that we try to locate previous posts, and I think that this particular idea will be a HUGE step forward to our community.

Good job! I would suggest ordering the tags by frequency of use. Since you have done the backend work already, let me know if you would appreciate some help with styling and mobile optimization, so you don't have to do everything on your own.

Actually, I couldn't sleep, so I implemented a very inefficient version of what you're talking about.
It's quite a bit slower than the previous version, but I think it's worth it; at least until I get time to implement a better one.

If you add this after all other CSS, it should work well on mobile devices. Also, I changed the image sizes, so they all have the same width, and get cropped at the bottom to preserve the ratio. I think, the overall look is cleaner that way.
The CSS looks a little weird at some places, because for testing in Firebug etc. I had to cancel out the existing CSS at some places.
Tested on Chrome and Firefox and my HTC's and Samsung mobiles.

A little bug I found: The first (most frequent) tag shows a wrong amount of posts (times 2 for my account and your account). However, I've seen also seen other differences than the factor 2.
On the subsequent tags it seems to be correct in most cases...there are some differences as well sometimes. I figured this might be caused by authors changing their tags afterwards, but I can't tell for sure.
I found the bug. It's because the main (category) tag is written twice to the blockchain tag section.
While I could try correct it, it will likely be fixed soon making the time spent fixing the bug worthless.

That would be a great tool. It'd also be nice to search, say you like darts, to be able to search all users that have mentioned darts, and even go further and maybe be able to search for a range of upvotes. Not saying posts about darts with no upvotes doesn't have good content, but it's still be nice to be able to search for posts about darts that have received over $10 in upvotes. Something's big like that. Really fine tune searching for party culprit things. Just a thought. Have a great Sunday!

As a content creator and contributor to the steemit community, I really support this. However, I think there are some fundamental issues that need a good looking at. I think that it's reasonable to have to build up a reputation in order to earn more in steemit. At the same time, I think that the system buries legitimately good articles and content under more seasoned and more invested individuals. And hey, that's totally understandable! However, it can be very discouraging for new users. Frustrating even. Take this for an example.
@mysterymerr was a friend that I donated my design services to. She spent a deal of time working on her introduction post. She wanted to do blogging on makeup and special effects content. She posted a very well written introduction post, and it made 20.00 SBD, which she managed to get maybe 10.00, less actually because of all the fees. Meanwhile, other people were able to blog in introduce yourself and earn hundreds because they knew the right people. It was very discouraging. The last straw for her was when she posted one more time and only made 0.03 sbd. She quit after that, and I don't think she's coming back.
Now, I know what you guys are thinking. Who cares right? She should have kept posting, earned her following and built up from there.
If you say that, you have an extremely solid point. However, I'm in the business of design. I've studied user experience design.
So while @mysterymerr is just one person who didn't do well, she represents a margin of potential newcomers. Her experience is what a lot of other newcomers are experiencing. It's something that we have to assume.
Now, while there may be something wrong with steemit's big picture, an even bigger issue present. The expectations are not correctly set A lot of these promotional materials, and word by mouth promotes steemit as a life changing platform. Step 1: Post, Step 2: ??? Step 3: The moon.
This may be true for a lot of people on the platform, but it is not true for everyone. The expectations are not correct. And thusly, newcomers will come aboard, and quickly realize that earning lots of money using steemit is actually bigger than just posting.
It's about promoting yourself, networking, building a following.
I'd say, that a good way to help counteract this is by finding new ways to spotlight content, more areas to allow good content to reach the light of day. If that were to happen, expectations could be set to reflect the active promotional materials.
Steemit is very much a huge ocean of content. Someone who is new and writes a post or contributes something worthwhile should be able to earn the same as someone who's been here forever, who doesn't actively post helpful or interesting content.
My 2 cents.
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AGREE!! And yes, I shouted that. I think if this issue isn't addressed, it will push a lot of users away. We're in a world that's so impatient, and they want instant rewards; meaning if they feel their article was really good, and they didn't get rewarded, they'll go elsewhere. That way they'll get their reward, even if it's just in the form of praise and kindness from their fans, friends etc. It's not always about the financial reward. I've found quite a few old posts that hardly had any reward, and were in fact very helpful and interesting articles. I then look for more of their articles, and see they haven't posted in months. And I've found quite a few like that. The old saying 'Cream rises to the top' comes to mind, but maybe there's just too much cream, and some of it just has no room to get to the top.

Ok, @thekyle I was able to do some test for https://www.asksteem.com/userexplorer also, and basically all looks pretty good, but the points 1 and 2 from my previous comment apply also for this tool. Also, one question came into my mind - should search results contain the resteemed posts if the tag is a match?
Hey thanks for giving me feedback, I don't think there is any way for me to include resteemed posts as that is not part of the blockchain and only steemit feature. For your points #1 and #2:
#1. Could you give me more details about this, I tried looking at some pages on AskSteem and didn't find any errors in the JS console, I did find errors on Steemit after clicking the link but those appear regardless of being directed there by AskSteem.
#2. The bottom of search results pages do contain buttons for moving the next and previous page which should be enough for non-technical users to move between pages, I really don't see it as likely that someone would need to jump from for example page 1 to page 5:

#1. Just search something using your tool, open the console in the browser and click any link from results - you should see several errors in the console.
#2. I disagree here - I think it is very likely that someone would need to jump between the pages. I base this opinion on my experience with users :)

Seems to me one of the tools lacking on Steemit is a way to organize content better. Not only is what you suggest an excellent idea, but from what little I understand about coding, it would not be super hard to implement if it were done as an extension of organizing tags better.
Most web sites with a lot of changing content have a "tag cloud" somewhere. Whereas Steemit does list tags on some pages, it's really not that well organized. Maybe "communities" will fix this? I don't know. I just wish we had more "fixed" top level and secondary level tags... for example, we might have "cryptocurrencies" as a top level tag, then "bitcoin," "steem," "ethereum" as secondary level tags... it makes browsing by interest FAR easier.
Getting back to your specific suggestion... categories are basically "disguised searches" that return specific results. I don't think it would be horribly difficult to add a search qualifier called (for example) "&user=papa-pepper" as a user option... be it from your profile page, or from a general category page.
Organizing tags better would also make it easier when you're creating a post and wondering whether a tag you're using actually exists, already... especially if the developers to make it so there were a "hot pre-fill" (lots of sites use that) you start adding tags.

This seems like a good idea. On esteem app there is already a search feature to "search by tags" and "search by user".
Imo these two can be merged. For example, first user selects "username" and then selects "tag" and that will fetch details , that shouldn't be hard I guess.
