Some ways how plastic is detrimental to the environment

in #blog7 years ago

I would like to share some information about plastic and its catastrophic consequences on our environment. I suppose we all know that plastic is non-biodegradable, meaning it cannot break down easily, leading to damaged land and water. Most of us tend to use thin plastic bags in a way that they are versatile to use. And we know it can be detrimental to the whole environment. Not only did plastic effects human species it also persuade the aquatic life. Many countries have banned the usage of thin plastic bags, but still, there is a lot of users around the world.

Even some people tent to throw away the plastic bag in the trash and thereby to landfills. But the thing needs to be considered that is not only the place where you can find a non-biodegradable substance, yet wind can carry the bags and land in another fresh place where it tries to stay for a long time. As a result of which these may end up in many places like waterways. So the problem is being triggered here.

The problems with careless decompose of the plastic lead to many consequences, especially to countryside people and wildlife. A colossal amount of plastic bags are ended up in seas, disrupting marine life. Sea creature mistakes the plastic bag for the food, and it eventually leads to the death of the creature, which even influences the whole sea creatures, or it even ends up in our stomach as many species are included in a food chain, where one species depends on another for food.

One can think that these are purely devastating effects and should get ready for the alternatives of the plastic bags as we should be not only be concerned about out humankind but also need to emphatically think about the sea life, which is very significant for our ecosystem. Some alternatives were introduced by a British scientist many years ago as a specific kind of chemical may be mixed with the plastic bag, which allows the bag to decompose in relatively less time when exposed to open air. I don’t really think government alone should be held obligated to alleviate the plastic pollution; instead, we need to take part in it.

There is need to create awareness among masses about its devastating effects. Most of the people are still unaware. nice post @dcrypto

In my country, a polythene bag in your hand is equivalent to a term of 4 years in prison or Ksh4 million fine.

This law was recently introduced in Kenya to get rid of plastic bags which had became a rampant environmental disaster.

In supermarket and malls, the customers are now issued with environmental friendly bags or the customer has to carry his or her own bag

By 2050, the oceans could have more plastic than fish. Sad.
