Rec Running- A Good Run at the Amazing Harpers Ferry #runwithme
I am very lucky to live 22 minutes from this amazing national park. As I visited during an off peak time today for my run it was really easy to find parking. I have a yearly pass. Yes, I do think we should pay a SMALL amount to park at national parks. Some find that sacrilegious but it's a small price to pay to fund programs that keep these parks protected, etc, etc.
The first picture above is simply today's "over the bridge" view of the Potomac. I found the water to have a pleasant blue-green hue. I also have two more photos from today's bridge series to include "across the bridge" & "under the bridge" of which that pleasant coloration is noted also to some extent, though the lighting & overcast day sort of changed the hue slightly from diff angles.
Across the bridge
Under the Bridge
After running over & across the bridge, yes, I did run under it for a bit and then circled back. On the initial path UP to the bridge, I ran up this small, but steep hill three times in succession because, good training, and it was the least recreational part of this run. LOL.
Then we proceed along a flat path that would lead you to the historic township of Harper's Ferry. On one side of the road, jagged out croppings of rocks grace your line of sight.
On the other side of the same road, you have this graceful creek that can turn 100% green with anaerobic algae during summer months of low rain but doesn't look like that at all right now.
Going past the town you across another major bridge over the Potomac & Shenandoah rivers. More stunning outcroppings...
Once across, you can run many miles along this canal region. In this section, you can see a more muddy looking water coloration of which is from the recent rain and melting snow but it is interesting to compare this brown to the blue-green from a couple miles upstream.
So I called this a "rec run" because I took several pictures pace and intensity was not a priority so it was more of a fun run. I ended up doing 4.10 miles in 46 something minutes which is slow for me, but irrelevant today.
Alright thanks for coming along on this #runwithme (new tag?), as I wasn't walking so we can't call it that. LOL. Unfortunately, I can't share any of the caloric burn but the sites, yes I can. 😊
all images taken by me with Samsung galaxy s8. Screenshot my own from running app.
That is so nice to have close access to a park like that. I've been doing most of my runs in my neighborhood, but you may have just inspired me to take a little drive soon and get a more scenic workout. 😀
I do tons of runs in the neighborhood. Lol. But this being only 22 minutes away .... i still feel i don't go often enough =)
You're close to stone mountain. It's a 5 mile paved path around it. I used to love going there! Their yearlt entry iz with it
Stone Mountain is a little bit of a drive for me, but I should still try to go more often! Kennesaw Mountain is a bit closer, and I work right next to some trails on the Chattahoochee River. I really have no excuse other than sometimes you just need to get it in where and when you can. :)

looks like a nice place for a walk or run, to clear the mind.. great images 👍
Thank you very much. It's the type of place you can see and appreciate something different basically everytime you go.
Oh Harpers Ferry, how nostalgic to me. Seriously, many beautiful and exciting things happened in that historic little town (most specifically to me, but I guess the most benign things can be beautiful and exciting when you're a teenager). Anyway, thanx for sharing your run. Your pace looks quite tough! Did you take little sprints between slower rest-runs?
I did some little fun sprints that 645 was NOT remotely consistent. As you can see the whole thing took me over 46 minutes for 4 miles is a pretty relaxing pace for me. =)
Yes harpers ferry is such a great place see something new everutime you go =)
Lovely run! Last summer entries to Parks were waived to to Canada’s 150th. I did not take advantage but i think that was an awesome gift of Nature. Speaking of gifts, sometimes a leisurely workout is a reward we need to keep pushing!
It was so nice and leisurely =)
I think paying to park is reasonable so the parks don't get trashed but Also having periods of free entries are always great!
It seems to be a nice place to forget the daily small problems and to get a free head again.

Have a nice weekend

Indeed nice promo
Stunning, I love walking or biking along the river in the summer.
Then when I find the perfect spot I stop for a joint and have a little snack. Usually some swiss cheese and sausage 😍🤤.
Sounds like a good little snack :)
What a lovely park. I agree with you on the payment issue.
Thx, there seems to be a definite divide on those who think national parks should be free to park
