The CDC says the child in Marin county tested negative for all influenza types in their confirmatory testing.
Doesn't definitively rule out an infection (we've had a few suspected cases this year that had poor samples that couldn't be confirmed).
The child is a toddler who was given raw milk from the California company that issued recalls for raw milk that was infected with H5N1. The parents weren't aware of the recalls. Their doctor ordered a flu test when they heard about the raw milk consumption, which came back positive.
Regardless of H5N1, toddlers most of all should not consume raw milk. It can hospitalize them. They are most at risk of severe illness from pathogens in raw milk.
