How To Write A Succesful Beer Review And Participate In Beer CommunitysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #beer7 years ago (edited)

Beer community is small but it is growing. I want to see it succeed! Here is my take on how to best engage and win new friends and influence.

Craft vs. macro beer

We have all seen Heineken a thousand times. We’ve tried it and taste can be compared to other pale lagers - but you really have to delve into nuances there. It’s great that it has very pure water, but just how impure can a beer get? Its score tells you everything. Beer such as this are dime a dozen. Be crafty! Find some crafts instead.

Disclaimer: I took Heineken as an example of a common Pale Lager and wouldn’t shy away from getting hammered on it given the chance.

I found craft. Now what?

Decide on your style of description. I’m an analytical type. I use tables. @meesterboom is not. He weaves a story from it. Decide what style suits you better and go for it. Heck, combine it even!

I can’t find words to describe my beer in such way!

No one was made smart. But we are all made creative! Use your imagination. Does it smell like wet feet? Describe it that way then. Lie a bit even. Exaggerate. It will paint us a picture beyond it is good, i like it, very tasty, i don’t like the color, it’s too white...

You can use some common words that are often used in beer description. I found a handy one here: Beer Tasting Terms

Descriptors are done. I will download photos now!

Try not to. Be genuine and use your own photos. You must have some kind of camera on your phone. Let it be grainy. Post one grainy and 5 downloaded photos but verify your experience. It adds legitimacy.

Use gifs!

Eye candy really! Videos are too bothersome to click for most people!

Add background to your story!

Do you like the pub? The service was outstanding? You got a freebie? What was the occasion? Try not to drone on about your business deals that were discussed that evening but your friends will be interested in how you experienced it!

Give your claims some support!

Maybe some standard beer review site until Steemit takes over? Do you use Untappd? It is super user friendly! There is a mobile app available.

My review is sheer perfection and nobody deigned to look.

It’s incredibly hard to notice new members unless searching and browsing through the tag to look for low payout posts. Make friends! You will have to catch attention by commenting or participating in the relevant community. Use #beer tag.

@detlev recently started #beersaturday tag and I’m helping him promote it. Big SP holders such as @ats-david, @pfunk and @nextgencrypto help with the pot for the prizes! They are big names on the latest contest post and the list is not exclusive. Hope to see even more big names there! Actually, I’m helping with the pot too from my post payout.

Would these tags be good for your visibility? Yeah they would! It also helps to write comments to other reviewers which are positive, add value and do not overtly beg for an upvote. Refer to Steemit etiquette.

Connect through Chat and Discord servers

This one is just easy to overlook if you are new! People mingle there. It’s quitessential for success!

In chat go for #beer and steempub channels. DON’T SPAM other channels. Use postpromotion! Find me there if you need extra advice.

This Discord channel is called Peace, Abundance and Liberty and it’s aimed at all newcomers! Say hi!

Footer of your post is valuable!

It’s near the upvote button where everyone looks. Don’t use flying cubes and stickers! I hope this is not a controversial advice. Authors of these gifs are skillful members and props for that. I don't know who made these exactly, but feel free to drop your names. I'll edit it in.

In other words - tell people to follow OTHERS, not you! They are at your post already anyway.

Check out the footer of this very post for ideas! Is it selling yourself? I don’t know, everyone who I mention is dear to me and I have no qualms about it. At least it’s not about me! ME! ME! ME! Follow meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

This place is tough!

Post to have fun, not to get rich! You’ll get more out of it. If I didn’t post about beer, I wouldn’t stay. Some people say to diversify and it’s OK to do it occasionally, but I personally couldn’t post about different things every day. Find your style!

Beer devotees: @kingscrown @meesterboom @beers @uwelang @rynow @detlev @professorbromide @costopher - you encourage me to write every day!You can find a lot more beer posts in my blog as well as other posts on various topics. Thank you for all your sharing, caring and upvoting!

Great post @buzzbeergeek, but you forgot to mention me :P Hahaha, just kidding :) You pointed out all the things I consider when I'm thinking about my new upcoming series about Polish craft beers. Can't wait to start it, but I still got some preparations to be done. Anyway, you deserve a tip! 0.1 link

Dear bussbeergeek. Please tell me what you know about Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown (smooth, sweet, like a honey brown but with a hint of maple). This wonderful Colorado beer was pretty common down here in Texas in most quality stores that carry craft beers, but a couple years ago it dissipated from all shelves. When I vacationed in Colorado last month I wasn't as curious to shop the pot stores as I was to find me some Tommyknocker!

Ratebeer doesn't really give it a 5-star review. It's good that brewery is making new stuff, in my opinion it's good for the development!

A famous beer here in my country is a Pale pilsen.I do not know what it means. But I bet it doesn't taste like wet feet.

It just might, lol, 3/100 score. But hey, I haven't found a beer I wouldn't drink yet.

Oh, So what would be the taste of a , say 90/100 scored beer?

90 is in style, So that beer would be in 90% top in it's style but at 10% low of all the beer. I look at both but style score is more important for me

I was browsing a bit Steemit and found this post and i am so happy i did. Really excited to see that is a beer tag and a community of beer fans. I love drinking beer a lot and since i am working on a cruise ship( fortunatly or unfortunatly) and travel around the world i will start to post few blogs about the beers that i am drinking in different ports of call that i reach.
Keep up the good work guys and dont forget its a lot of us around!😉

Awesome idea for a travel log!

All good info - for beer posting and some of it just in general when interacting here. I definitely need to incorporate lots of this into my posts - learning slowly!

Looking forward to some beer later and an entry into #beersaturday!

🍺

So wait... I can get SBD just for drinking beer and then writing about how much I enjoyed drinking the beer? .... OOOOHHHH YEEEEEEAAAH!!!

Thanks for the mention and I really enjoyed your post. Thank you.

I hope we stay in touch! You are one of the first people I noticed here!

I have a few of my drinking buddies on my "Beer Geek" app (which says it is "powered by Untappd"). They are good about rating the new beers that they try, and it's kind of fun to see that. My old Windows phone struggles with doing some of that, though, so I don't participate much.

I sure do enjoy reading the beer reviews on Steemit, for the most part, regardless of the alleged quality of the post itself. I guess that should be the main indicator that I should try to do a review myself. Just do it.

I fully agree that a gif is a much more attractive feature to include rather than a link to a video, at least in this case.

Well, CHEERS to that :)

Thanks for some great tips!! and all your great beer posts.
