Rare Photos of the Sami People
Happy Wednesday Steemites! Wanted to share some old-timey photos of the Sami peoples. The nomadic Sami have inhabited Arctic Europe for thousands of years. They are famed for their reindeer herding. Because their culture is oral, there aren't many first-hand written accounts of their way of life. Unfortunately, due to numerous factors, the number of Sami living the traditional lifestyle is dwindling. Currently, they are a part of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples' Secretariat, which includes the Inuit tribes.
Look at those cutie pies!

I was just planning out a post about circumpolar tribespeople. Nice to see this here.
That's great, feel free to link here.
Interesting. Thanks for the post!
May God bless the Sami race i.e. please don't let the white man f*** up his territory!!
Unfortunately it's pretty much too late. There are some areas in sccandinavia with some limited rights(sami council), but the Sami has lost most of their territory. They have also been forcibly sterilized, not allowed to speak their language, and had their children taken from them, and been socially stigmatized The situation is much better now, and there is a movement for Sami pride, and taking back their cultural roots and so on, but conditions are still tough. A least poverty is not too much off an issue, this is scandinavia after all, we are somewhat civilized.
Compared to the Sioux Indian, the Sami are doing v.well. Visit the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and you'll see one of the most depressing states in the whole of America.
