Sad day on the homestead.
Yesterday I had to murder my first fowl. He was sick and I had to put him out of his misery. 😢
I don't get to eat quail just yet but this one here, he's a part of the cycle of life and I buried him in my compost pile. There is one other that was sick and seems to be recovering just fine.
Increasing their nutrition
Have a look at the salads I'm serving these guys. I'm even putting olive oil on it to try and meet some requirements for the proper vitamins. They have spinach, pea shoots, red amaranth, and dandelion all fresh from the garden.
Quail snack
I haven't found out yet what these insects are and I'm not sure if that beetle is one of them or that "cocoon"? They do make a great snack/ supplement for the quail though from the looks of it. They just love running around in their new dust bath room gobbling them up.
Meat is healthiest
Charaka Samhita, which has been stated to
be the oldest Ayurvedic text states the following:
"Sharirabrinhane Nanyat Khadyam Mamsadwishishyate."
Which translates to:
"For the promotion and nourishment of the body, no other food item is better than meat."
Another ancient scripture of Ayurveda, Bhava Prakash, states: "The meat of freshly killed animals is like Amrit (the ultimate life-giving fluid that sustains the Divine.)"
