Sometimes you don't spot a bird no matter how hard you seek them out.

When out looking for birds make sure to keep your ears, as well as your eyes, open. Birdsong is a great way to get an initial location.. If you practice your ear, you can learn the sounds each species makes and recognize who is singing or calling before you spot them.

Look for other indications of bird life in the area you are in. Footprints in the sand, snow, mud, or soil. You can also look for potential nests at different levels. In trees, brush, and on the ground. Make sure if you do find nests that you give them space and don't draw attention to them.

If you find signs of bird life, you can revisit that location at another time. Sometimes a different day, with different weather, or at different times, will be more successful.

On days where nothing presents itself, you can still take a minute to breathe and enjoy your surroundings.

Working closely with birds brings me a great deal of happiness.
On your adventures with birds make sure to give them their space, and do not pursue or harass them for a better look or picture, especially during their nesting season. These beautiful creatures deserve our respect as well as our love.
