ADSactly Education: Successes and Failures, What are your interpersonal relationships like?
"The most important ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people."
Interpersonal relationships in the workplace
Conflicts in the workplace can be caused by communication problems. A hostile environment that affects the work, without doubt, can cause problems in the productivity of the individual and, therefore, in the company. There are many reasons that can lead to bad relationships between employees within an organization, for example, the diversity of cultures of those who make up the company, since its various origins can cause misunderstandings in terms of interpretation of a message.
Similarly, the lack of leadership by company leaders can also cause disagreements, since incompetent leadership will generate little trust among subordinates and, therefore, unfavorable communication with employees. Also relevant is the lack of values, expressed in disrespectful, dishonest attitudes and of little tolerance towards the opinions of others, which brings friction among staff affecting the work environment.
According to a study carried out by the University of San Carlos de Guatemala in 2014, on the incidence of interpersonal relationships at work, this should foster the conditions for a positive relationship among the people who work there; therefore, affection and friendship are essential.
It is necessary that working life should always be harmonious; that trust, companionship, respect and tolerance should be part of everyday life. Along with that convivial environment, a management and leadership in senior positions that devotes time to listen to the concerns of its staff and always ensures healthy and comprehensive interpersonal relationships in the organization. All of this is fundamental to success and will help to avoid or diminish problematic situations or misunderstandings.
Next we will consider some negative behaviors that hinder appropriate interpersonal relationships:
- Lack of sensitivity or empathy. This characteristic makes interpersonal relations difficult, as it causes frictions that can attract problems between the parties involved.
- Immature and infantile responses. They create embarrassing situations, which can cause conflicts.
- The inability to understand a failure or decision in a given situation. This aspect is very common in the work environment, but it is equally evident in any other area of life.
- The difficulty in assuming one's own mistakes. Not consciously assuming one's own faults and attributing them to third parties.
- Postponing a decision. Not deciding in a timely manner, especially if it is an urgent response, can have serious consequences.
- Reacting inappropriately to a conflict or situation. This is a key aspect, as it could increase the conflict or delay its resolution.
The dialogue, which constitutes an extraordinary aspect for the cultivation of interpersonal relations.
Valuing others and oneself, that is, giving value and respect to the qualities of the people around us, which will allow us to cultivate and improve interpersonal relations.
Healthy mental attitudes, which will make it possible to deal with the various conflicts or difficult situations that arise daily in society and which can affect interpersonal treatment.
Be kind to everyone, sociable with many, intimate with few, friend of one, and enemy of no one."
Benjamin Franklin

Thank you!
I think you have a good look at this pertinent issue, so significant for our development in the world of work and social relations in general. They provide very valuable observations and recommendations, worthy of being taken into account by many (bosses, employees, beneficiaries). Thank you and greetings, @luces.
Great post.
This kind of material would have made a difference 21 years ago when I started working at the English department at the Universidad de Oriente.
I recently quit my job there, mostly because of the general crisis in the country, low salary and terrible working conditions (infrastructure looted by criminals, etc). But, even if that had not happened,I think I would have quitted all the same.
Other issues were making working at this university a torturous task.
One big issue: lack of leadership
From heads of departments to deans and university presidents, it was difficult to guess what direction they wanted the university to go and what role we were supposed to play. That did not help channel the usual issues you find in a competitive academic environment.
Ultimatelly, it even stopped being competitive, at least academically.
I think you have done a great job mapping out the ramifications of poor interpersonal relationships at work and the importance of getting along with everybody.
It's hard, though. Most people usually have to find a middle ground between being authentic and being accepted. There is some level of theatricality that must be put to use if harmony is to be fostered.
The university got itself destroyed eventually. They will need tips like this if they plan to rebuild it.
i am impressed . thats #amazing . i agree with your #great post . yap Interpersonal relationships in the workplace. that can change our destination thanks for your #excellent preview .keep on
As a teacher, a woman, a citizen, I know the importance of personal relationships in any field. I think that there are very important aspects to have a good relationship with others. To mention one, I can point to communication. When people see that a person has the ability to communicate well with people, many more people tend to want to follow him and get to know him. A person who comes to you, who motivates, who transforms another person with his or her word, is a person who can go far and reach whatever he or she sets out to do. Good communication provides harmony, understanding and especially, bonds, bridges, which make groups more successful. Indeed, any kind of effective and harmonious relationship goes through a series of steps, but first of all there must be intention in the group, everything, for good relationships to prevail. Greetings, @luces.
