How to Make French Dip Squares

Turns out you needn't bother with extravagant fixings to make the best party canapé ever. These simple french plunge squares are stacked with complex flavors (thanks caramelized onions!) AND there's sufficient to sustain a ravenous group. The ideal alternate route to a French plunge sandwich, we'll be making these again and again.

Ingredients

Cooking spray
2(8-oz.) tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
5 tbsp.butter, divided
1medium onion, thinly sliced
4sprigs fresh thyme, divided
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/3 c. grainy mustard
1/2 lb. deli roast beef
9 slices provolone
1 tbsp. freshly chopped parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1 c.low-sodium beef stock
1 tbsp.
Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Preheat stove to 350° and oil a 9"- x-13" preparing sheet with cooking splash. Spot one unrolled jar of bows on arranged preparing sheet and squeeze together creases.

Caramelize onions: In a huge skillet over medium warmth, soften 2 tablespoons spread. Include onion and 2 sprigs thyme and season with salt and pepper. Cook, blending every so often, until onions start to mollify and turn marginally brilliant. Keep cooking, blending sometimes, until onions are delicate and caramelized, 20 to 25 minutes. Expel from heat.

Manufacture squares: Spread an even layer of mustard onto arranged sickle, leaving a 1/2" outskirt clear on all edges. Top with a layer of dish hamburger and a layer of provolone.
