Meta Zelda - Recent Interpretations

I had a thought today that seemed surprisingly obvious in hindsight, but rather fun and worth sharing. I hadn't attempted to look for metaphor in this video game classic series that has certainly been part of the formative years of many of us, but it's certainly ripe for it!

Each Zelda story appears to be in essence a man's struggle to overcome his his primal self. Imbued with the property of Courage, our intrepid young hero Link strikes out to combat the tendrils of evil originating from the plots of one Gannondorf, wielding the property of Power.

Link represents our more positive masculine side - bold and daring, thrifty and efficient, adaptable and strong, selfless and pure - striving to overcome the obstacles ahead, helping those around who might ask for aid, moving forward to help those in need (of all shapes, colors and sizes) - foremost, of course, our titular character princess Zelda, who represents the sacred feminine archetype, carrying the property of Wisdom, appropriately so as the life generative force carried by her is the ultimate representation of the wisdom of all life's experience here, and is evidenced by her bearing great magical power in some of the lore. Gannondorf stands before Link as the primal, dominant, rapacious side of the masculine force, which Link must overcome in order to rescue the princess Zelda from enslavement so that the world might be blessed by the wisdom she carries.

Literally, within each being there is a struggle between two masculine forces each a product of eons of experience, one representing our primitive evolutionary survival traits carried to a polarized extreme and one representing the higher self we all desire to be, literally unkillable and able to defeat any challenge in service of a noble purpose... given that you can't actually "lose," eventually through time the primal is overcome and the higher self liberates the wisdom carried by the feminine archetype, and the world prospers. Link is also very directly the force which brings together the 3 great human attributes of the triforce and binds them once again to give direction to the world.

I hope everyone who has played these games can obtain this simple bit of knowledge and find themselves enriched by it. Everyone who's playing one of these is having a good meta-struggle and kind of participating in a shifting of collective consciousness, I'd say. Maybe I'm just wacky though ^_^
