How can you obtain Ashtanga yoga teacher training?
The Abhijna School of Yoga, located in Mysore, India, offers Ashtanga yoga training. The school's home base is also the birthplace of the practice. As of 2014, over 250 people have received certification in Ashtanga yoga from the school, and they teach in various parts of the world. Each class emphasizes individualized attention and is limited to 12 class participants.
Students who complete the Ashtanga yoga training at the Abhijna School are certified by the Yoga Alliance in the U.S. The comprehensive course is designed in collaboration with the Yoga Alliances' 200 hour requirement for registrants. Each student who completes the training is qualified to teach Ashtanga Vinyasna yoga. Course conductors all have an extensive background in both yoga and meditation.
According to the Ashtanga Yoga Teaching Training site, the course covers such subjects as yoga philosophy, Pranayama and anatomy. The yogic diet is covered as are the various forms of meditation, including Nataraj, Osho Nadabrahma and Kundalini.
The school also offers an advanced course. The basics of the Sanskrit language and Ayurvedic practices are weekend class offerings through the site.
Ashtanga.com defines Ashtanga Yoga as a kind of yoga that synchronizes breathing with a series of progressive postures. Ashtanga Yoga postures are designed to produce an intense internal heat, which acts to purify and detoxify the organs. In turn, Ashtanga Yoga practitioners experience enhanced circulation, a stronger and lighter body, and a calmer mind.
