A Pennsylvanis-class cruiser, SAN DIEGO had a speed of 22 knots and was armed with four 8"/45 cal., 16 (reduced to 4 during WW I) 6"/50 cal., and 18 3"/ 50 cal. guns.
When designed it was intended for them to fight in the battle line with battleships, but the Battle of Tsushima showed the fallicy of this thinking.
Completely out-classed by the modern dreadnoughts,she performed convoy escort duties until her loss.
An heroic end to a gallant ship. Hopefully the final determination of her demise will be known soon.
