Maybe because February is a shorter month but I think that's a lot of words :)
Nah, I have struggled this month, between recovering from flu and having a bit of a ho hum month in general... I did okay, but it's not going to be enough to keep the stories flowing on Steem if I don't do better after inspections are done.
Why did you buy them upfront ? Why not when the lands there? The hunt is great though. Here the prizes are so high due to to little houses for to many people
We bought them up front because the girls want to do 4-H - which is an agricultural club for youth. Our fair is really early too (early July) because it is in tandem with our rodeo. So, if we wait, they will miss out this year.
I actually started out asking our (4-H poultry) superintendent whether the girls could borrow someone's chicken for showmanship (where the judge looks at what the child has learned about their project and how they handle them), and she offered to host our chickens until we get land. That's better for the girls, because then it's their own chickens they show.
So, we will be visiting every couple of days to check on them and clean up after them, though the hosts will also be watching them as well.

Thanks! Yeah, it's long and tedious. Our realtor thinks there should be more things as we get nearer to spring.
We're worried about the silky. It's not acting well. We'll probably go visit them today to check on it. I'm thinking about picking up an antibiotic that can go in the water. I don't even know what they have these days.
The silky died today. The lady who sold it to us is going to replace it since we only had it a day and a half, I guess.
Anyway, I learned something while researching it though...
Plain yogurt mixed with some water can be used on these really young, stressed chicks. You can even syringe feed it to them if need be. It's really good apparently - especially if they get pasty butt. (Though corn meal in their starter is another way to treat that... corn meal and a bit of fine grit, more like parakeet grit, I guess.)
The others are growing great. I will post those pictures next week, I guess. I still have to share the main chick post where I'll share about the breeds (Wed, I guess.)
That's so sad about the silky! I'm glad you're getting another one. Good tip about the yogurt. I will have to remember that.
