End of the Journey

She's standing by the bridge,
She looks down the large body of water as she steps on the deck.
She wants to jump; end it all.
What’s she living for?
An abusive husband of 21 years?
What’s she living for?
A dead daughter who’d rather take an abortion than confide in her own mother?
What’s she living for?
A non-supportive church?
Everywhere she goes, she hears whispers.
An orphan she is; with no one to turn to.

She’s giving up,
She can’t take it anymore.
Losing all ounce of will and determination,
She let’s herself go.
Down and away she falls so hard death is a certainty.

Flashbacks start creeping in.
What about Joy?
Her friend who’s been supporting her all these while?
What about Junior?
Her neighbour’s son who calls her mommy with every chance he’d got?
What about Josephine?
The young bride who looks up to her for her strong will and endurance all these years?
What about Ella?
The girl she financially supports through her university education?

Then it dawns on her,
She has more to live for than to die for.
She has people who look up to her.
People who want her alive than dead.

Too late it is as she plunges into deep waters,
For she can’t swim.
She struggles with the raging current,
Aimlessly thrusting against the waters.
Slowly water enters her lungs,
Gradually competing for air with her body.
Heartbeats, Heartbeat, Heartb, Heart, Hea, H,
The heart stops beating,
She stops struggling,
Naomi is dead.

If only she looked to the positive side of life,
If only she looked at the bright side of life,
If only she talked to someone about her innermost depression,
If only Naomi,
If only.
