Umm... no. What was going on is a lot of scams, and a lot of people lost a lot of money from BTC's massive drop.

Crypto enthusiasts have been claiming government was afraid of cryptos literally since inception. Governments, on the other hand, haven't done shit against them. They finally started to take notice when prices went way up, and their reaction was simply "oh, tax revenue stream." That's it.

The worst governments, like China, leak news of banning cryptos every few months... but most likely as a means of manipulating the price so they can trade it.

It seems that as of recent, Google news has stopped putting cryptocurrency news on its front page.
