Spreading the Spirit of Writing, You will get More

Spreading the spirit of writing is actually an activity which is needed in this era. As we have known that more people such as millennial to day are really addicted with smartphone. Actually, there is nothing wrong with using the smartphones, but the use of the gadgets seem not properly in the right use. Ideally, the gadgets must be as the sources of learning where millennials can access more information, knowledge and everything needed for their life. But, what most of them use the gadgets just for fun and even do not read more.

Last week, I got an opportunity to make a presentation on writing. It was the first time for me to share spirit of writing for some young people who are studying at Sekolah Lingkungan Aceh ( Aceh Environmental school) organized by Walhi Aceh, Indonesia. Since it was the first session or the first meeting, I must create the first moment for motivating them to write. Hence, I asked them about their reading habit as I also ask to many University students when teaching.

My finding is more and more millennials are lazy to read. They are lazy to read books or other reading texts, such as newspapers, magazines, books an even the digital reading text. If they read , most only read the status in face book or other social media. Therefore, I tried to identify some potencies of the students. Asking about their reading habit, what they have read so far today, how many pages of books they have been reading, what issues were in the newspaper, etc.

There I motivated the students to write and today is the second day of opportunities for sharing knowledge, skill and experiences of writing at Sekolah Lingkungan Aceh, the The Environmental school held by WALHI Aceh, Indonesia. They must practice writing regularly, as the proverb says that the key of learning is practice, practice and practice.
