Jay Adams Skateboarding Style

Jay took up skateboarding at the age of four, the same time he began surfing. Born in Venice California you could say it was fate or destiny that he would become a skateboarder. His stepfather Kent Sherwood worked at Dave sweet’s surf shop under Pacific Ocean Park. The magical spot that introduced Jay to skateboarding.

Surrounded with everything needed to become a master of style. Surfing at the time was much more popular and would prove to a big influence on skateboarding. You could see Jay brought this to the world of urethane and rolling, low sweeping turns dragging his hand along the concrete as he rode. Jay was greatly influenced by Larry Bertlemann a professional surfer of the time.

Jay was born and raised on surfing and skateboarding, the two activities wove together in his body and spirit. He had his canvas and the more he lived his art the style was shred upon it. When you look at great artists of yesterday in any medium, style is everything and all they have left behind for us. The explosive energy and low, daring surf adapted moves painted all over the urban landscape was Jay’s, showing us the art of expressing the human body when it came to skateboarding.
