StoryTrax - The Adventures I See in Music - Machine Transcendence (Factories Part Three)

in #writing7 years ago

Every song tells a story to me. Fascinating visuals broadcast through my mind like an IMAX presentation when I close my eyes and put my headphones on. I'd like to give you a glimpse into what I see, so feel free to hit play as I present the stories I've found while listening to some of my favorite tracks.

Today's Track: The Enigma TNG - Revenge of Alice

010 - Machine Transcendence (Factories Part Three)

Hailey slipped the small adapter on to the burner sheet, allowing her disposable tablet to send audio to her headset. The replay symbol on the video seemed to taunt her, an idle symbol of the rabbit hole before her. Having already witnessed cult members and auditory hallucinations she was somewhat apprehensive about what she was going to hear on her second playthrough. Her breakfast still had a few minutes to reheat fully, and curiosity was getting the best of her. With a deep breath she tapped the screen.

Just as images began to flicker she heard a high pitched whine come through her headset. In an instant her senses were overcome as reality distorted before her. The walls began to ripple and vibrate. Her sense of balance was instantly shot, and she wobbled as her knees gave and she fell, barely catching herself as everything began to spin.

The factory around her began to take on a yellow hue as her stomach churned. The tone in her headset began to oscillate and change in frequency, from a high-pitched screech to a low rumble. She reached for her ears to remove the device but her arms were like gelatin, her muscles unresponsive to her brain's demands.

There was no sense in trying to understand what was happening before her eyes, and there was no stopping it. The catwalks and walls of the factory all became geometric, shifting shapes. Wires melted with the patterns and became complex fractals. The war machines on the assembly line looked like demons, half-finished beasts with organs and limbs strewn about as masses of black sinew sticked new parts on. One of them turned its gaze toward her, a half-finished biomechanical skull screaming as filth spewed from its alien jaw. Hailey desperately tried to move, to run, as panic set in deep.

"Just watch," a disembodied voice rang out. "There's a reason we came here tonight".

The screaming monstrosity was carted along its conveyor toward the modified hydrophobic spraying stations. White light emanated from the nozzles as the compound coated the machine. The demonic form struggled but was unable to escape the bolts that held it to the platform. Black skin melted to reveal a chrome undercoat. As the coating station worked its way back the entire creature was transformed from a wailing nightmare to a silver humanoid, kneeling in place. It moved to the next platform, where metallic wings were mounted to its shoulders. Stunned, Hailey watched as an angel was assembled before her, then picked up and placed in a shipment crate.

Just as sudden and jarring as the hallucinations began, they ended. Hailey watched the doors close on the shipping container, full of the same hexapodal war machines that were shipped out every night. As the spinning stopped and the ringing in her ears faded, she looked down at the burner sheet to see it display a simple message.

"Every thing created is done so with a piece of the creator's soul."

Hailey clawed her earpiece out in a mixture of disgust, frustration, and relief, and cast it aside on the table. She popped open the door of the microwave and grabbed her breakfast, but found herself no longer hungry.

"Should've waited," she grumbled, and sat down at the table. "I'm calling in sick tomorrow".
