2nd Creative Writing Challenge - Task # 3 - Saved the day
Saved the day
Last Friday, September 22th, Clay Cook, a fellow citizen from Kitchener, on Ontario, Canada, was walking his dog, Lola, around Kitchener’s Victoria Park, the oldest Park of the city.
The day was a bit gray, but he wasn’t hoping for anything else. The wind was fast, and it was starting to get chilly. As usual, Victoria Park was not crowded, since it was quite early in the morning, but there were kids messing around, too.
For a second, Clay didn’t pay attention to the kids, as some of them would skip school just to “have fun”, but started to worry when Lola got suddenly nervous.
His dog was a really pretty crossbreed, some sort of small bodied, but big headed German shepherd, her fur was long and soft. His pup was pure madness when he adopted her, but after some training and long walks she had became the most serene dog he had ever met. To see her so agitated made him uneasy.
He crouched next to her and tried to calm Lola down. Lola started whining, barking and skipping, trying to break free of the leash. Clay thought for a second, and simply let go of her.
Lola ran off right where the kids were, and he was close behind her. When they were about 15 meters away of the small group, one of the kids was thrown off by another one, and fell down into the river.
Instead of helping him, the rest of the kids flee the place in a second, and by the time he and Lola arrived, the kid was barely visible. Lola jumped into the water but was too small to help the kid around, she barely marked the place for him to skip into, and after a second of doubt he leapt in.
Luckily for them, the river was pretty calm, and he had no trouble getting Matt out of it, but they were drenched and freezing outside. The other kids brought help and some old gran gave them towels to get dry.
Thanks to Lola, Clay had saved the day. Matt, who is barely 16 years old, gave Lola a big hug thanks, and promised treats and toys for her.
