Creating music goes beyond the sound - It's more of a connection. Connecting the heart of the songwriter and the listener. As much as a songwriter pours their heart into their creative piece, the listener brings their own feelings, memories, and interpretations to the table. Listening to the song The Market Place by my favourite artist Brymo, gave a unique inspiration to me as a listener. I could look through the wording of the lyrics and draw an understanding of reality.

The Market Place

Anger razor go slash through weilder too
To hold person back you go stay back to make sure
To hold person down you go stay down to make sure
The warder one kind na prisoner too

The lyrics are written in pidgin English, which is directed towards the Nigerian audience - it expresses the consequence of trying to pull a fellow down. For you to pull a fellow down, you have to stay down. Being a warder is no better than a prisoner.

Music has an incredible ability to evoke emotions. A well-crafted song can make you laugh, cry, dance, or sit in quiet reflection. It stirs something deep within, even when we can’t figure out why. This is where the true power of music lies – in its ability to connect people to feelings they didn’t even know they had. For the listener, it’s about finding a song that resonates with them, something that speaks to their personal experiences or gives them solace in moments of doubt. This was my experience this morning.

Thank you for reading through.
