Tourism in Nepal: History and It's promotion

Nepal is a land of Diversity. Althought it is small, It has a high potential on Tourism Industry. There are a lot of natural beauties (i'm not talking about girls :D ), historical buildings, religious sites and the beauty of Nepalese Architectures. Tourism also provide jobs to a lot of Nepali, with good and steady income. So, It is one of the important factor for country as well as citizen's  econimic and financial development.

History ot Tourism in Nepal

     People used to come to Nepal from a long time ago. Manjushree is said to be the first person to come to Nepal; who cut the Chovar Hill making the way for water to go outside of Kathmandu Valley. From then, cizilization in Kathmandu Valley begun. Ashoka, from India came to Lumbini, Nepal and build Ashoka Pillar(also an evidance of Buddha born in Nepal). During the LIchhavi and Malla Dynasty, Royal People used to visit other kingdom and dynasties. Various Buddhist came to Nepal from Other countries to learn about BUddhism. 

     Among the initial tourists to visit Nepal, Sir Edmund Hillary was one of them. He along witth Tenzing Norgay Sherpa scaled Mount Everest for the first time in May 29, 1953. "The first ever Tourist Visa was issued by Nepal on 1955 to a legendary Russian Hotelier Mr. Boris Lissanevitch." THe signing of Sugauly Treaty between Nepal and British East India Company started regulsr visit of British to Nepal and NEpal to British. After the end of Rana Regime, Development started to take palce. Road Network were established and airway came to an use. Nepal Tourism Board was established in 1922 to promote tourism sector. From then, the number of tourist comming to Nepal started to increase.

Dark Period in History of Tourism

   The foremost factor that hit hard the Tourism in NEpal was the Hijack of Indian Airline from Tribhuwan International Airport. Also the Royal Massacre and the Royal Coup affected the mindset of Tourist comming to Nepal. ANd the moist revolution messaged the whole world that "Nepal is unsafe for travelling."

The then, most of the tourism agencies weree short down and tourist begun to stay for short period of time. 

   Also Nepal lost its image by the earthquake of 2015, which caused devastating effect on Nepal. Many religious and historical monuments and buildings were severly affected by the series of earthquake.

Places to visit on Nepal

    Talking about Nepal, the foremost thing to remember is Mt. Everest. Along with Mt. Everest, there are 8 out of 10 world highest peaks located in NEpal. Tourist come to climb as well as view them.

    Chitwan National Park is one of the best place to visit on Nepal. The diverse flora and fauna can attrats anyone. Every year, Chitwan National Park conducts Elephant Polo, the sport that is palyed in Nepal only.

    Religious palces to visit includes the holy Pashupatinath Temple(one of the world largest temple of lard Shiva), Janaki Temple, Muktinath Temple, Manakamana Temple and many more. 

    Lumbini, Nepal is the birth palce of Gautam Buddha, the founder of BUddhism. It is one of the world's sacred place for BUddhism. 

    Nepal is rich in History. Nepal's HIstoric monuments are really loved by the Tourists. People prefer to visit Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Kathmandu Durbar Square, 55-windowed Palace and many more.

    Lake Tilicho is the LAke located in the highest altitude in the world.

    Pokhara, the city that wakes on Night, is one of the favourite place that tourist visit on Nepal.

    In short Nepal is selected by tourist for Mountau=ineering, Trekking, Sports, Paragliding, Jungle Safari, pilgrimge, agriculture and Leisure.

Now, getting into the actual topic, How can we promote Tourism in Nepal?

Tourism Industry is growing healthy In Nepal and it has a lot of potential because of its unique natural and historical identity. However,this industry hasn't flourished as it is expected. The following things can be done to promote tourism in Nepal.

Policies to promote Tourism in Nepal

1)Transportation is very essential for tourism development. The matter of fact, tourism is the result of development of transportation. Tourists from foreign needs transportation to arrive Nepal. so, we must first promote transportation to promote tourism. Various proposed international airports should be constructed as soon as possible. Thus, we can attract more tourists towards our country.

2)Natural scenery are the major factor that attract most of the tourist to Nepal. Nepal being god-gifted, we still cannot manage viewing points and create a attractive environment for tourists. Proper conservation and promotion of natural sites should be done to attract tourists to Nepal.

3)Cultural and Historical Heritages attracts tourists to Nepal. Nepal is known in the world for its History and Culture.Tourists  come Nepal to enjoy and learn the culture and history. We should conserve, repair and promote these sites to attract tourists.

4)Tourists Centre and agencies plays a vital role in tourism industry. But, we don't have enough well-managed tourists centre to provide necessary information and assistance. We also lack in well-trained tourists guides. Tourists don't like to visit new palce without proper information and assistance. So, we must establish tourists centres and provide guide training to people to promote tourism. 

5)Publicity is very essential for attracting tourists but it is lacking in Nepal. Despite of being rich in natural beauty and culture, it's publicity has not been done. Tourists don't know about Nepal and doesn't tends to come for visit. We must publish our touristics sites in every medium. T.V, newspaper and social sites plays vital role in publishing and promoting tourism. So, we must publish our touristic sites to the whole world to promote our tourism industry.

6)Entertainment Facilities makes tourists to stay for long time. But, We don't have enough entertainment facilities to entertain tourists. We must organize entertainment programs like Elephant Polo, cultural dances and other entertainment facilities for Tourists.

7)Security is one of the major concern of our tourism industry. We cannot guarentee security for many tourists visiting Nepal. Due to our political instability, we often come accross various security threats. So, increasing on security can promote tourism in Nepal.

8)Hotels, Lodges and resturants are the place where tourists stay during their visit. So, we must construct quality hotels and also promote home-stay in rular parts of Nepal.

9)Pollution makes tourists away from our country. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and the only international gateway of Nepal is so polluted that, tourists tries to stay away from it. So, we must control pollution and create a healthy environment for tourists.

10)Tourist Goods are not available in Nepal. We must import them from foreign country making it expensive. BY, making it available in our own country, we can generate moke income from tourism.

11)Tourist Visa and entry process should be made easire for tourists to come to Nepal. We must establish diplomatic relation ship with more countries and promote our tourism there.

12)Awareness is the major factor that affect tourism industry. If people are aware about the advantages of tourism industry, then they tends to promote it. Then, tourism industry will fluorish like a forest-fire.

By following the above mentioned points, we can promote tourism in Nepal to achive more advantages from it.
