A Heart of Love
Too often we look for the Spirit in the extraordinary when God has promised to be present in the ordinary.
Maggie was working, working, working at the volunteer food drive. She felt exhilaration for the amount that were coming and the smiles she had the good fortune to engage with. Her spirit felt renewed by the goodwill going through the crowd that day. Yet, deep down she knew something wasn’t right, and she simply urged herself onward with that irresistible grin everyone commented on.
Days went by and matured into years, and soon that smile was worn and tattered. It was no less bright in the face of man, but beneath the surface its mechanism was broken.
In spite of all Maggie’s efforts her desire to serve left her wanting all the more. The people she thought appreciated her efforts only waited till she was finished to leave her on her own again. Bruises compiled on her broken frame while her spirit faded into a form she no longer recognized.
The years turned into more than a decade, and Maggie nearly forgot her own name. The life she heard about, and dreamed in her imagination was so far distant that she wearied to even conjure the thought.
But, there in the evening and the darkest of hours, the sun began to shine. Her why grew like a fresh blade of grass in the spring as the foals run in the field. Maggie remembered what was beneath it all. She remembered who she was, is, and always will be.
Her list of worries melted as butter on a hot piece of bread. Soaking through her soul once more, and encapsulating the essence of who she had hidden. She no longer felt the need to protect her dream. It was time to unleash it.
Maggie’s friends marveled at her emboldened demeanor. They always had a feeling this side of her existed, and they were filled with a renewed light of their own as Maggie gave with an unfettered fervor.
No one seemed to see how deep Maggie’s rabbit hole went. At last, she was ok with that. At this time, Maggie was content to just be, and let her ordinary carry her to extraordinary.
