Lily and Vali - original short fiction story

Lily often wandered the park in the late hours of the night, to lose herself amid the starry skies. At her heels was her trusty friend, a small black terrier named Luke. Despite the frosty winter chill, being out there was far better than being home. Mother could be such a vicious bitch, why did she have to throw the plates against the wall tonight, I bet she was aiming at me, she must be out of Jack Daniels again, Lily thought.

Lily continued to walk Luke as she enjoyed the eerie silence that seemed to linger in the air. Heavy thudding and whipping from heavy boots smacking against the pavement break the silence in the air.

Her heart started to pound rather quickly … and then the sound from the heavy boots stop. She noticed a tall shadow of a man hovering and breathing over her. Lily kept walking faster to try and put some distance between her and this stranger. Luke is too small to defend me, what is he going to do, bark at him to death! Please Mother Mary protect me … I … don't want to die, Lily thought.

She turns around to face the stranger following her, "Who are you and why are you following me?", her voice trembled as the man kept drawing closer to Lily.

A large black trench coat draped the colossal frame of this stranger, wearing a long top hat. Suddenly as if an answer to her prayers, bizarre bright lights began to dance in the sky. She thought it was a helicopter. As Lily lifts her head, three saucer-shaped objects in silver twirled and whirled to get her attention.

The ships drop down closer and closer to Lily and then stopped and hovered. Blue and red lights blinked over and over. Bewildered she gazed as the intense heat from these mysterious saucers filled her body with a strange light. Her body was humming, vibrating and feeling as though it was being roasted alive.

But Lily was too mystified, her body felt locked in position unable to move. Breathing heavy, Lily muttered, are …. these stt….ar … star people? I never dared hoped and of all the places in all the world, they are here with me now! Is this really happening?! Or am I hallucinating?

Standing was the strange man that had been following Lily. He takes off his hat, and to her surprise, he has blue skin, an elongated skull and almond shaped eyes. "Greetings, Lily, my name is Vali. I come to offer you the adventure of a lifetime. But you must decide here and now to give up this life or continue to live out your existence on earth and let it destroy you", said Vali as he gazed deeply into the eyes of Lily.

Finally, able to get a word out, Lily gasped, "Why … Why me? Who are you?".

"I am Vali. I come from the Anjurian Universe in the Emerald Sun Galaxy. Lily, you come from a proud lineage, prouder than you know. You have been part of the ground crew for centuries on Earth. You do most of your work when you sleep. Memories sometimes slip in the dreaming, but you often dismiss these just as quickly. Our crew received orders to bring you on board. There is so much to do and so much you need to remember. But as this is a free will Universe, I cannot force you. Only you can decide if you will come with us, now", he gently caressed Lily releasing her from the paralyzed position she was in.

"Vali … um… can I take Luke with me. I … will go with you but only if Luke can come along", replied Lily.

"Ha! Excellent, Luke is one of us in disguise. He has been in communication with us the whole time. Of course, he can come along. Are you ready?", smiled Vali as he threw his hat up in the air.

"Yes!! Beam me up … but wait my mom … I know she can be mean, but … I don't want her to worry about me", Lily grabs Luke and holds him tight.

Vali comes behind her and placing his elongated arms and fingers around Lily, and whispers, "we will perform a memory wipe on your family and friends. Upon your return to earth, if you so choose to, no one from your past will remember you. If they ever see you again, your face will feel like déjà vu and dismissed just as quickly".

Lily taking a deep breath, gazes into the deep black abyss of Vali's extra-terrestrial eyes and yelled, "why the hell not?! An opportunity like this comes once in a lifetime".
