Chapter 2


Land far away


Ruby opened her eyes to discover a land she had never seen before. “Where are we?” she said aloud. She turned to her brother to see him smiling… “why is he smiling?” Peter looked at her and said “This is so cool!” “Cool?” Ruby responded. “What do you mean cool!? We don’t even know where we are, and it is all your fault!” “My fault?!” Peter snapped back. “Yes, your fault! You should have just let go of the leaf when I told you to! Instead somehow you got us here…how though? Wait, you said something just before the leaf started spinning…what was it that you said?” Asked Ruby. Peter looked at her blankly, “I don’t know what I said…oh wait! I remember! I asked if you thought a Dinosaur would eat a leaf like that.” He responded. “See! It was your fault after all, you shouldn’t have said that!” yelled Ruby. She didn’t mean to be so angry at her little brother, it’s just that she was frightened and wanted to go home.


All of a sudden they heard a loud deep voice say, “Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! What is going on here?” They both turned around to see a huge Dinosaur standing right in front of them. “Well?” said the Dinosaur. Ruby looked at her brother and then back at the beast before them. “Who are you?” she was able to get out. The Dinosaur looked at her surprised, “You don’t know?” he responded. “I’m Brad, Brad the Brontosaurus.” Ruby started to look a little less afraid and remembered something she had learned in school. “Hey! I think I have heard of you!” she said. Brad turned to her with a smile and said, “Well of course you have, everyone has heard of me.” Ruby looked at her brother to find him standing still with the biggest smile she had ever seen. “Who wants a ride?” asked Brad. Before Ruby could even comprehend what was just said, Peter started jumping around yelling, “ME! ME! ME!” Ruby laughed and said “Wait, how do we even get up there?” Brad the Brontosaurus smiled at her kindly and said, “You can just climb up my tail, silly.” “Aren’t we going to hurt you?” asked Ruby. “Hurt me?!” laughed Brad “Of course you won’t hurt me, get on.” Ruby started to slowly make her way up with her brother right behind her. “Hurry up! Hurry up!” he yelled. “Don’t you hurry me!” she said. As she made her way to the top she realized she was so high that she could touch the trees! Once everyone was on board and settled, Brad started slowly walking towards a waterfall in the distance. Peter was so excited he could hardly stand it. “This is like riding on a train!” he said. Brad, looking quite confused asked, “What is a train?” The children both laughed, “Oh, you wouldn’t understand” answered Ruby while they continued on their journey.

Chapter 3


Mother in Trouble


After they had been riding for a few minutes in awe of their surroundings, they happened to notice the Mother Dinosaur nearby watching over her eggs. As they got closer Brad shouted, “Hello there!” The Mother Dinosaur looked up and smiled, “Hello.” She said. The children more excited than shocked at this point, and said “Hello!” at the same time giggling. “What is your name?” asked Ruby. “My name is Bonnie, Bonnie the Brontosaurus.” answered the Mother Dinosaur. Ruby smiled and said “Oh! I think Bonnie is a beautiful name!” Bonnie giggled and said, “Why, thank you dear. And who might you be?” Ruby glanced at her brother and said, “My name is Ruby, and this is my little brother Peter.” They all looked at Brad, who smiled and said, “Hello Bonnie, I’m Brad.” “Well,” said Bonnie, “I think those are wonderful names as well!” “Thank you!” The children and Brad said together.


Ruby happened to look down and notice the eggs again, “Wow! Those eggs sure are pretty.” “And big too!” chimed in Peter, “Can we look at them?” he said. Bonnie looked at the children and then back to her eggs, “Yes, yes you can” She said. “But you must be careful.” Luke slid down Brad’s tail and ran towards Bonnie’s nest. He began looking over each and every egg till he was sure he had seen every inch of them. Once he was satisfied he sat down, leaning against an egg. He then realized he was still holding the leaf from their garden. He looked at the dinosaurs and smiled, “Hey, is anyone hungry?” he asked. Bonnie glanced at the leaf and said, “Why yes, I am very hungry actually.” Peter stood, pushing himself up using the egg and handed the leaf to Bonnie. “Well, this is just delicious.” She said as she munched the leaf. Peter, feeling very proud of himself, turned back to sit down against the egg again…but, it wasn’t there! He looked around and sure enough there was one egg missing that he knew was there before. “Oh no!” he yelled. Everyone turned to see what was the wrong, noticing that an egg was missing, they all yelled, “The egg!” They all spotted it at the same time, the egg had started rolling down the hill the nest was built upon….

Chapter 4


After that Egg!


They all began running down the hill as fast as they could. “We have to catch up to that egg!” cried Bonnie. They pushed themselves to run even faster. They could see the river before them and knew they had to get to it before it ended up in the river. Just when Brad thought he had it the egg bounced onto an log which catapulted it over the river, into the forest beyond it. Once they all reached the rivers edge, Ruby turned to them and asked, “How will we ever get across this river?” Bonnie looked at them and said “We will have to walk across it of course.” The children looked at the raging river and back at the dinosaurs. Ruby knew they had to get Bonnie’s egg back, but how were they suppose to walk across a river like that? “Walk?” she asked. “That river is too deep! Our heads would be ten feet under water if we tried to walk across that! There has to be another way.” Brad realizing their dilemma, had an idea, “You two can ride on my back! We should be able to cross safely that way.” He said. The children climbed back up onto Brad’s back and they started to make their way across the river. Once they reached the other side, the children slid down his tail and started searching for the egg. The egg was nowhere to be found. “Where could it have gone?” asked Ruby. Bonnie, worried as could be looked around and replied, “I know I saw it land right here, It has to be here somewhere!” Brad trying to calm everyone’s nerves said, “Maybe it just rolled a little bit further and it is just up ahead.” They all started making their way farther into the tree line, searching desperately for the egg, but didn’t see it anywhere.

Chapter 5


T-Rex Crossing


After searching in the area they believed the egg would have rolled, they came upon a small grass covered hill with an apple tree growing near it. As they made their way towards the tree Ruby noticed another dinosaur. “Who is that?” she asked. Brad noticing the dinosaur in question said, “Oh, that’s Tim, Tim the T-Rex. Don’t bother with him, he is always angry. Just keep your distance kids.” Peter stopped in his tracks, “A T-T-T-T- Rex?” he asked. “Yes.” answered Brad. “He is a carnivore, which means a meat eater.” Peter, not sure why no one else seemed a bit afraid, said “He looks really scary.” Brad smiled at Peter and said “He can be if you get in his way, just keep your distance and you will be fine. Let’s keep looking for that egg!” The others started to look in the bushes and around the trees to see where the egg had gone. After a few minutes Ruby’s stomach started to growl, she hadn’t realized how hungry she was. “I’m getting a little hungry” she shyly said to the others. Bonnie, realizing that she had never offered the poor children anything to eat, jumped into action. “Here” she said as she grabbed some delicious leaves off the nearest tree, “have some of these, they are my favorite.” Bonnie handed a few to the children and snacked on a few herself, searching for an egg was exhausting after all. Ruby and Peter looked at each other and then down at the leaves Bonnie had given them, “Not for leaves” Ruby said. Bonnie had realized that these children were probably not accustomed to eating the same leaves as she enjoyed and said, “I will go and find you something else to eat my dears, just stay here with Brad.” Ruby knew that Bonnie needed to be looking for her egg and not wasting time trying to find them food. So she put her bravest face on and said, “No, you and Brad need to keep looking for that egg. We will find something to eat, don’t worry about us.” Bonnie feeling unsure about leaving the children but also in a hurry to find her own egg, gave the children a nod and started off to continue searching. Brad followed her, looking high and low as they walked along.


Ruby and Peter searched for berries or anything else edible in the surrounding trees, then looking out towards the grass covered hill she noticed the shiny apples on the tree beside it. She looked cautiously all around to see where the T-Rex had went off to. After scanning the area, and not seeing any sign of danger, she turned to Peter and said, “I’m going to get us a few of those apples. You stay put and I will be right back.” Peter, hungry and not wanting to argue with his sister, nodded in agreement and said, “Be careful Ruby, you know what Brad said about mean ole Tim the T-Rex.” Ruby smiled a reassuring smile at her little brother and carefully made her way to the apple tree. She easily made her way up the branches of the tree and loaded her pockets with apples. After she was safely back on the ground and quite proud of herself, she lifted a few of the apples over her head and waved them at Peter to show him what she had accomplished. Peter did not look as excited as she did though, he was wildly waving his hands at her and mouthing something she couldn’t make out. Suddenly, she heard a low growl. Terrified, she slowly turned around, “Oh no.” she managed. Tim the T-Rex was standing right behind her with an irritated look on his face. Ruby, not waiting to see if he really was as grumpy as Brad had said, started running to the tree line that she had left Peter in. She wasn’t running fast enough though because Tim was right on her tail. She then saw movement in the tree line and realized that Peter had found a small cave and was waving his hands to try to get her to come that way. Somehow, she made it to the cave and jumped into the small entrance with Peter. They were safe! The cave entrance was much too small for Tim to get into and Ruby was so relieved. Looking at her brother with such appreciation she said, “Thank you for saving me!” He smiled and replied, “You’re welcome.”

Tim the T-Rex had gotten bored very quickly waiting for the children to come out, and wandered off to find something else to entertain him. Once they were sure he was gone, they started to make their way out of the cave. “We better be getting back, Brad and Bonnie will be worried.” Ruby said. Peter agreed and they started to make their way back to the tree line. There waiting for them were Brad and Bonnie, they had never been so relieved to see a dinosaur in their life.

Chapter 6


Lost Kid

Once explaining what had happened to Brad and Bonnie, they started on their search for the egg again. They came to a dark looking part of the forest. Peter, thinking they had had enough adventure for one day, asked “Do we really have to go in there?” Bonnie, more worried than ever, said “Yes, we have to find my egg, and this is the only place we haven’t looked.” So, they all reluctantly started walking into the forest. It became so dark could barely see, but continued on. Soon clouds began to gather, blocking the sun out even more. Ruby tried to stay calm and just followed the sound of Brads large feet crunching on the forest floor. Then, she heard something behind her, she turned to see a small bird pecking on a nearby true. “Whew.” she said to the others, “It’s just a bird guys.” But, when she turned back around, there was no one there! “Hello!” she yelled, to no avail. She couldn’t see anything and began to worry. “Oh, I’m lost!” she cried. She started running into the direction she thought the others had gone, but after a few minutes she fell to the ground, exhausted and afraid. She went to pick herself up and her hand happened upon a large, hard object. At first she thought it was a rock, but once she looked closer she realized it was the egg! Relieved she sat down next to the egg and went to lean against a nearby tree to catch her breath. As she leaned against the tree, it moved! Why, it was Peter! She had found them! She was so excited to see them and to back together again. She quickly told them that she had found the egg and they started to make their way over. Just then, the clouds began to clear, and the dark forest wasn’t so dark anymore.

Chapter 7


Home

They all made their way out of the forest and back into the clearing. Bonnie had her egg tucked safely in her mouth and was heading back to the direction of her nest. Brad helped them cross the river again and before they knew it the lost egg was back where it belonged. Bonnie was relieved and laid down to rest near her other eggs. While Brad and the children walked back the way they had come they took in the beautiful scenery. “Hey!” Peter said, “That was pretty fun!” Ruby, confused at first, and then realizing her brother was right, said, “Yeah, I guess it was kind of fun.” Peter noticed a familiar looking plant and said, “Hey Ruby, look at these berries. I think these are the same ones that grow out by the back fence at home.” Ruby looked at the berries and smiled while nodding in agreement. “Home.” Said Peter, “I wonder what they are doing at home?” Just then the wind started blowing like before and everything started to spin. Peter grabbed Ruby’s hand and they both closed their eyes.


Once the spinning stopped, they both opened their eyes. They were back in their garden at home, right where they had been playing before. They were home! The children, still trying to take in all of the events of the day, laid back on the cool grass and looked at the clouds above. They were so glad to have been able to meet Brad and Bonnie. Imagine, seeing a real dinosaur! No one was ever going to believe this. After a few minutes Peter smiled and said, “That really was fun.” Ruby laughed and replied, “Yes, yes it was.”
