Ode to the Cat

in #writing7 years ago

Apparently humankind is divided into two types of persons; you are either a cat or a dog person. I'm extremely fond of both. but if a choice has to be made -like Old Possum- I'm a cat person.

They move with their soft paws gently over every possible surface, accompanied with the characteristic rhythmic swinging of the tail. Their eyes being disarming when they stare at you though are merciless when a endothermic vertebrate is spotted. Affection or wittiness is only displayed when in need of physical attention -initiated when deemed convenient of course. Opening the refrigerator's door goes accompanied with loud purring and flattery towards your hands and legs and stops immediately after serving.

The occasional humiliating behavior towards their foes [read: dogs] is so utterly calculated, that I have to say: chapeau. Ask a dog owner about the damn neighborhood cat and they will give you an anecdote on 'how the cat tricked the dog'. A cat's main motive for this behavior is -I assume- to entertain themselves between their lengthy compulsory hygienic episodes or naps. Obviously once in a while something goes wrong, and here I find the characteristic I admire most:

They always manage to land on their paws.

Cats eat grass to aid their digestion and to help them get rid of any fur in their stomachs.
