Concoct-a-Verb Contest Entry - Floustipp
Floustipp (verb): give (someone) payment for goods and/or services using fresh cut flowers
The noise came again.
A frightful screeching born from a place outside, yet somehow, wracking the very centre of his being. It was as if long nails were being drawn slowly across a blackboard. He shivered, fresh sweat forming on his forehead.
“Where… where am I?” he choked.
The air was thick with the acrid smell of body odour, and something else. He couldn’t place it.
The world was dark around him. It felt as though everything was pressing in, pushing and twisting him. He was damp, and itchy.
The noise came again.
He was suffocating.
“Help!” he cried out into the darkness.
Suddenly, with a flash like lightning the world was bright. His vision returned with the force of a freight train, splitting the world into twenty blurry copies.
He closed his eyes, and opened them, trying to make sense of the reality before him. It was a room, vaguely familiar, a silhouette loomed over him, naked.
The noise came again.
“Are you going to get that?” a female voice, matching the blurry outline of the naked figure in front of him.
All of a sudden it made sense.
The Pizza!
He stumbled to his feet, kicking over empty bottles in the effort to stand. The world was even more confusing in a vertical position.
The front door fell outward against his weight and he tumbled down the steps, startling the delivery guy.
Reaching into the garden he handed the driver a fresh rose for his trouble.
“Ahhh… Thanks?”.
Ha ha Love it! Paying for pizza with fresh cut flowers. Love your word, and the way you illustrated it. Great story.
