The Things No One Can Take Away

No One Can Take Away ...

Do you know what I don't do anymore?
I don't let the world rule my spirit. It may force and twist my body in all directions, but the innermost self was locked up for too long as it is—by me, of all people.

If you're going through some dark discouraging passage, take these words from someone who has walked those roads—this too shall pass.

Someone told me that a long time ago. I didn't want to hear it! But I stuck around long enough on this earth to find out that they were right.
I almost didn't make it through alive, but it did pass.

And then some people told me it was also true of the good things. "They, too, shall pass. So, be there for them."
"It all shall pass, by and by, so don't get so attached to a moment in time..." they said that too.

I know these are some strange times for sure. I feel odd doing any promotion for music during this time because it seems so petty.

But, you know, I have to make music or art or something.

Re-Creation

The statement that started this post is true: My innermost self; I take some responsibility for him now. And 'he' likes to make things, create. Or, rather, 're-create' things—like a song from a broken heart.
(I know, I'm talking about my 'self' in the third person... haha, bare with me)

I've felt like my purpose was to be a re-creator. I am given these events and feelings, day by day, good and bad, happy and sad. I take these things, own them, and try to make something else out of them.

If they are painful things, I might make a song, a poem, a hug or a quiet meditation... if they are happy things, I try to make a memory that is worth taking with us.

It is a simple way I 'try' to live.
It is, in fact, my spiritual walk.
God gives me things (my life); these things make up a day and then a life ... my 'practice' is to make something out of them, "something worth giving ..." one of my songs says.

I like the fortunate happy things best, : of course
but I'll take whatever is given to me. And I will make something from it.

I choose to make beautiful things because, despite all the chaos reining presently, I can see beauty all around me. And that too, I won't let anyone take away.
But these things that I 're-create,' no one can take away.
