26 Websites Where Freelance Writers Can Get Jobs (Some for Cryptocurrency): How to Get a Freelance Writing Job

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Freelance writing job sites are websites where writers and sometimes people with other skills can go to find work. Most of the jobs are short-term "gigs," however, sometimes they offer larger projects. These websites can be good places for people who are just starting out freelancing or who need to find immediate income in a pinch. Although, if you establish a good rapport with a client, it is possible to get a stream of work.

Most of the people who want to hire freelancers at these websites are looking for the biggest bargain they can find. This is especially true at the ones that expect you to bid on a project. So, you'll probably be expected to work very cheaply at some of them. Other sites help you match your skills to an employer. Most of these are free to use, some take a broker's fee if you get a job through them, a few require a paid membership in order to take advantage of a wider range of features. There are plenty to choose from so always take advantage of whatever is free first!

 How to Get the Job

Choose a few from the list that you think feel right for you. Get comfortable with each one. They're all similar, but different. Take your time. Relax and look around.

Go ahead and register and, if you must, set up your payment information. Most web sites pay you through PayPal or another third-party merchant. If you don't already have a PayPal account, you can easily set one up free at www.PayPal.com. You'll need a Bitcoin, ethereum, other appropriate cryptocurrency wallet for the others. At some of these sites, there is no trusted-third party or broker, and you can negotiate how you want to be paid by the client and be paid directly.

Usually, the websites that want you to bid for a job will allow you so many bids per month before you are required to purchase a membership. Take advantage of all of the free bid placements you can. Create a profile. Include samples relevant to the type of work you'll be bidding one. Include information about any similar work you've done previously, too.

A trick: Sometimes you can do a little Googling of a client listing at a bidding or broker's website, based on the person's User I.D. and the type of work they want done, and figure out who is looking for a freelance writer. If you are a good sleuth, you may be able to contact the prospective client directly with your offer to do work.

Regardless of how you make contact with your prospect, sell yourself on what you can bring to the project, especially by way of previous work in that market. The more you can sell the client on the benefits of hiring you, the better the chance you can win the bid on something besides just a rock bottom bid.
Once you have got the job, stay on top of any correspondence with prospects. Don't hesitate to get back to them as quickly as possible, if they have questions.

If you get the job, then follow through and deliver on or before the agreed upon deadline. Aim for good reviews from your clients, which will make it easier to get more jobs in the future. Try to establish relationships with your best clients and that way you have to spend less time looking for them. If you establish your brand well enough, they will eventually come looking for you!
