Extracts From The Diary of a Mad(?)man

The small room, seemed to close in on her more and more every day. The world was big but to Heather it was very small indeed. She liked to keep to herself, people were outside, and she did not like people. Curiosity led her to look around her living room. It was big enough for one person to live in, but extremely dim lit with the curtains drawn. Reaching for the remote, Heather switched the television on and turned to the news channel. Another murder had happened. The news anchor was starting to use terms like serial killer, and give the idea that it was not safe to go out at night. Heather knew this not to be true, she knew it was unsafe to go out at any time. Feeling her agoraphobia coming on, Heather quickly took another one of her medications.

It was not like she enjoyed being trapped in her own home most of the day; it just helped her feel more secure. For as long as she could remember things that most people claim did not bother then, did in fact bother her. Starting to feel the headache coming on, Heather took her next set of meds. The news station started to fade into the background as the painkillers she was self-prescribing kick in.

Slowly Heather started to feel herself again, she never felt normal. What was normal anyway? People seemed to like to label things they had no clue about, which was something she really despised. Her motto was leave it alone, it cannot hurt you more that way. The television was still playing the news. It was the same news, different anchor. Heather felt they just said the same things over and over, feeding everyone’s fear. It scared her, and set her anxiety off more each day. After a few channel changes she found something she liked, checked the time, and took her next medication. Heather knew she had to head out to the doctors soon, she did not want to, but if she did not get her medications all refilled it would not be good.
